Description

South Street Seaport Museum is located within the South Street Seaport , the historic site of a 19th century shipping area, which now includes a shopping mall and fish market. Ship lovers and would-be sailors will delight in the historic fishing ships, nautical photographs and paintings. There are also children's interactive exhibits detailing life at sea. A working 19th century print shop and a shipbuilding shop are located within the museum. Hours vary seasonally, check the website for details.

An underappreciated gem in the touristy Seaport District

This is a great Museum that is often missed within the shopping and street activity of the historic Seaport District. The Museum sprawls throughout the District, including a fleet of historic ships, art and artifacts in multiple galleries, and the beautifully restored historic Schermerhorn Row buildings.
