St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral, New York

We moved recently to NYC and were looking for Russian orthodox church we can go on a weekly basis. I like St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral because it feels like home, very friendly, many volunteers. And it has well-preserved "old" tradition we do not see in Russia anymore. Also you can meet a lot of different people there, not just Russians.

I am Buddhist living in NYC for several years. me and my GF generally go and meditate in various parts of city. Trinity is may fav. After reading review here, We went to this church. We liked atmosphere as in building and ambiance. Its nice till that point. We sat there and meditated for few mins. As soon as We were done, We found a priest ( i assume he was) next to us ( i am guess b'coz of my GF she is polish). It started very polite. Once he came to know that I am Buddhist and my GF is christian and inclined to follow me to Buddhism, he was furious. The things that came out of his mouth were worse than most I have heard in my entire life. I for a moment thought organization that made this person clergy has some serious issues to work on. He pretty much told as we are refusing his so called god, us and our coming generations will have deformities and will burn in hell. I can believe we have such ppl living in middle of Manhattan. I am not sure what made all others give 5 star to this beautiful place containing garbage,

I happend to be in NY , and came to this wonderful place !! Just like in Russia !People are very friendly , stuff is friendly and helpful beautiful place . I love coming there looking forward for the tonight ceremony .
