The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Any visitor to the Big Apple should spend at least a couple of hours at this vast museum. Designed by Richard Morris Hunt, it has more than 1.5 million square feet (139,355 square meters) of exhibition space. European paintings on display include works by Monet, Degas, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Titian and Vermeer. The Egyptian gallery is unparalleled, while Asian art, sculpture, armory, and photography galleries also vie for your attention. During warm weather, the open-air roof garden displays contemporary sculptures. Apart from being a treasure trove for art lovers, this museum provides a fun-filled and educational experience for all ages.
What a stuffy, dank boring place! Came here in June after many previous trips to NYC.
Found the staff to be extremely unfriendly.
In the egyptian area, I accidentally brushed against a huge stone slab and was reprimanded. I am 48 years old! The slab may have been eons old, but I am more delicate than that humongous thing.
Was there on the day of the Puerto Rican parade, and although the steps were crowded, I found it insulting to be told to move on when I stopped to take my sweater off when I stepped outside.
Well, at least I can say been there, done that. Never coming back.
I didn't like the staff at the museum. There needs to be better not right denier staff, and they need to be nice not nasty, and they need to be coustomer friendly not not coustomer friendly. They need to be considerate not inconsiderate. They need to be courteous not discourteous.
It was very busy with an endless array of paintings and pictures that only hardcore artist would find interesting. 6 floors of endless people. I did not find it very interseting but it was very neat and had places to sit. I went on Target free Friday and it was packed to the MAX. It had people lined down the block. But there is no way I would pay $15.00 per person to see this museum. I would not recommend this.
My mother has been taking me to museum since I was four years old, so for me it is even somewhate nostalgic. I highly recommend eveyone take a visit to the MET. It is a relatively inexpensive NY attraction, and they have such a range of exhibitions. Even if you spent the whole day there you would not be able to see even half of what it has to offer. It is family friendly and there are a range of dining facilities. So whether you are from the NY area or just visiting I definately would stop by.
