The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Any visitor to the "Big Apple" should spend at least a couple of hours at this vast museum. Designed by Richard Morris Hunt, it has more than 1.5 million square feet of exhibition space. European paintings on display include works by Monet, Degas, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Titian and Vermeer. The Egyptian gallery is unparalleled. Asian art, sculpture, armory, and photography also vie for your attention. During warm weather, the open-air roof garden displays contemporary sculpture. See their website for exhibition schedule, membership details, complete visitor details and especially Met Holiday Mondays.
I was there for hours and still didn't see but maybe half of this museum, but it's truly a magnificent place to visit while in NYC. We were lucky enough to tour the Age of Rembrandt exhibit and it was truly amazing! If you have the time, you should definitely tour one of the many museums in NYC, and this is one of the best!
Met is a really really nice place but please don't be fooled by the admission prices displayed at the counters.. those are just SUGGESTIONS.. i repeat, SUGGESTIONS!!! this place is by donation only, so it doesn't matter how much you give, they'll still give you a pass.
It was very busy with an endless array of paintings and pictures that only hardcore artist would find interesting. 6 floors of endless people. I did not find it very interseting but it was very neat and had places to sit. I went on Target free Friday and it was packed to the MAX. It had people lined down the block. But there is no way I would pay $15.00 per person to see this museum. I would not recommend this.
You haven't lived until you have been to the Met. There is something there for everyone to enjoy. We planned to stay a few hours and remained until they closed the doors! Highly recommend this experience, but plan to stay longer than expected.
the environment was inspiring and the paintings were breathtaking! remember to bring a camera, but also keep the flash off!
ps.moniqua shaw didn't really go here, she just wants her name to show when she googles it.
pss. amazing gift shop! i came out with tons of bags!
Escuse my poor English,I am not a native in English language, dispate my long friendship, "in absentia" with Americans like Raymond Carver and John CheeverI was for more then 2 years in charge in NYC as a very smart&clever deputy Director at Romanian Cultural Institute. #38thstreet/#Ave. And Metropolitan Museum was for a faboulous place, with its collections, atmosphere and, last but not least the chance to find you there yourselves. With Central Park like a friend, and the Fifth Avenue like a mother in law, M.M. is one of the most impresive things in my afective memory. May be one day to write a book about NYC,a plece for everybody from all over the world. Against to the stupidity that such a place will be founded in USA.That'all, and HAPPY WASTER to every newyorker( or Berliner...) My name is Bedros Horasangian, I am writer and I live now In Romania. The country of Brancusi and a very particular sense of humor. With friendship
I been here many times as a student and this place is awesome. It is a place you definately want to visit, you must spend hours in here. It is huge. But my favorite part of all is that I had a whole school day off lol.
The Metropolitan Museum is definitely a must-see when you are in NYC. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are knowledgeable and professional. There is so much to see, however, that you'll have to plan to be there a number of hours if you want to take it all in. While you are there, don't miss the rooftop garden for a beautiful view of Manhattan. We would also recommend having a delicious lunch in the museum's cafeteria. Their many selections were just wonderful and the prices are reasonable. Don't miss the Met when you visit New York City.
