Coney Island, New York

The rides were fine, my problem is with the various game/prize booths in the area. They're obviously independently owned but I think there should be some kind of regulation by park staff to make sure everyone has a good time. I went on July 4th, and this ruined what would have otherwise been a perfect weekend. There was a darts booth, where you throw darts to pop balloons, running a scam. They give passerby's a free dart throw, and then afterwards, they charged me! It wasn't just that they charged me for the dart I threw, they actually told me to take all the money out of my wallet. It was practically robbery in broad daylight. There wasn't any "$$ for # of darts" sign. They just took $10 out of my wallet and said it wasn't enough, and was about to make me go to an atm. I just got out of there before they stripped me of everything I had. Absolutely disgusting. Please spread the picture appended of the booth in question and warn people to stay away from these booths. I admit it's my fault for getting conned in the first place. Be wary of any "free" games. But the behavior of these people is absolutely terrible. You can't justify this kind of blatant robbery. Oh, please let it be known that I am only referring to the old run down part of the park next to wonderwheel. The new luna park is terrific. Clean, efficient, friendly staff. They're completely different parks even though they're right next to each other.

The new Luna Park is open and running. I hear new rides are opening for the "11 season. There are some great thrills for younger folks than me but great old fasioned fun for the oldsters. They also have live free entertainment every week-end. A place to go again.

I went to Coney Island a couple of weeks ago. I thought it would be the same and I was excited b/c I thought it had closed down but it didn't. The park has really went downhill. It is smelly, the tickets are expensive, and the rides need to be cleaned up. Also, the employees were just leaving rides and going wherever. For example, my step brother wanted to ride this ride called Ring Of Fire I think. The guy working it left and he'd be right back. We stood there waiting for almost 25-30 mins. Then when he was walking back he went somewhere else. After a while we decided to leave because the guy never came back. On the other side where the Wonder Wheel is you have to buy seperate tickets. Each ride you go on you have to buy tickets. So we only went on one. I can't remember the name but it was fun. That was the only good thing. It kind of turned into like a mini carnival. There are many freak show things and a place to see people like snake woman and stuff. If you want to go somewhere worth while and where you'll have a good time then I recommend finding another park.

I spent many a summer at Coney Island. My Grandmother lived there. I have so many wonderful memories. A long time ago, in the 1940's and 50's, was the best. We spent days at the beach, then at night, we'd go up on the boardwalk, and to the rides. I will never forget Coney Island, as that was some of the best times in my life. And oh, Nathan's and Shatzkin's knishes! I can taste them now. Please bring Coney back to life again! Why not make it like Atlantic City, with hotels,etc.

LOOKED TERRIBLE,RIDES WEREN'T WORKING,DON'T THINK I WOULD HAVE LET MY GRANDDAUGHTER RIDE IF THEY WERE.. CITY SHOULD TAKE OVER AND ADD NEW RIDES, OR CLOSE IT...DOESN'T LIVE UP TO THE NAME.. I DIDN'T LIKE ANYTHING.;

Growing up in Brooklyn, NY it was a great adventure to spend the day at Coney Island, walk the boardwalk until dark, and then stay for the weekly fireworks display. Imagine, fireworks every Tuesday night during the summer! What could be better than this? One Tuesday our family had an extra special treat. My Dad had a friend with a boat. We were able to go out on the Atlantic and watch the fireworks while we faced the lights of Coney Island. That was a night I'll never forget back in 1959. (Sorry, the dates given in this form do not go back as far as my memories go.)

IF you are expecting Miami's South Beach or California's Venice Beach then sorry this isn't it. However, step back in time and that's the feeling you get from Coney Island, a little trashy, a little cheesy and you're on your way. An old style fairground, blended with a boardwalk - with probably the best people watching available anywhere. And that's Coney Island. While you are there, go on the beach ( it's safe, the people won't bite) and check out the snake man. Catch a base ball game at the Cylcones and go to the world class aquarium. You don't need to take a $60 tour, just get on the subway and relax and enjoy it. You'll have the best fun ever. Now why did I give it only 4 stars, at night its a little shakey. Which is why you head over the little odessa in the Russian section and eat, drink and be merry over there after dark.

It's a great place to take the kids. They played on the beach during the day and early evening they played at the carnival. the next day we played at the aquarium.

Coney Island Is one of the greatest places to visit in the summer days. We have numerous attractions such as, the cyclone, wonder wheel, go karts, kiddie park and lot's more. We have a large variety of places to eat such as, famous Nathans, Popeye chicken place,Macdonald's and many more. We have a long stretched board walk with fire works every Friday nights. People please remember Coney Island is a place to visit in the summer days. Also keep in mind this is the last season for Coney Island Developers will be closing it down to make room for something different. So for those who love The Old Coney Island make sure you come out before it is no more.... A long time resident of Coney Island. Doreen
