Greenwich Village

Description

The zigzagging streets and charming brownstones of the Greenwich Village have a far more laid back atmosphere than most neighborhoods in the city. The center of New York's gay and student communities lies here, with a variety of funky shopping and nightlife including jazz, rock and dance clubs, restaurants, bars, and cafes. By the early 1900s, the Village had fully established itself as the center of radical thinking in the United States. Famous reformers, artists, and intellectuals all gathered here and many still do. Do not miss a visit to Washington Square Park.

I cant wait to visit again!
By Marty, 8/13/07
The entire atmosphere was amazing. The people, the shops, the restaurants. I think it is the best place to visit if you are in the city. Not as many tourists, more laid back.

Love the Village!
By OCShoobie, 7/22/07
As a native New Yorker, I was brought into the city quite young & exposed to lots of different things to see & do. I have to say, my fave has always been the West Village. It's a place of diversity & I feel at home whenever there. Not that one should be careless in NYC, but you don't get that sense that you could be mugged at any minute here. Known for its eccletic shopping,cool bars, small cafe`s & winding streets, you can't go wrong in the Village. {Just remember, this is not Chinatown, so don't come bargian hunting here. :)}

It doesn't get any better!
By JPF, 1/14/07
I envy those who are lucky enough to live in the Village. During my recent trip to NYC, I had the pleasure of spending a day walking the streets and parks in the Village and had the time of my life! From great little shops to the best restaurants in the city, Greenwich Village has it ALL! If you get the chance, check out the Life Cafe. Their menu and ambiance is like no other! And the price is great, too! You will see all types of people and will really get to experience true NYC life. I could go on forever about my day in the Village, but you will only understand what I am saying by visiting yourself. So, plan the trip of a lifetime to NYC and be sure to set aside at least one day for exploring the Village!

nightlife is good too
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/15/06
I went to the village to find a particular nightclub. I found myself on a street dotted with bars and had the time of my life this night- going in and out of this bar and that. I met an artist, who turned outt o be rather famous. We hailed a taxi to his luxurious studio in Chelsea and chilled like I have never chlled before. One of my best nights ever. I'm finally going back 10/06

Positively 4th Street......
By JillJ, 8/21/06
Greenwich Village is charming, laid-back, and peopled with interesting folks who like to strike up conversations. Washington Square Park is a great place to hang out, NYU is right there, there are plenty of interesting shops and bars/restaurants for the young and young-at-heart, and if you're a fan of Bob Dylan, the Beats, or Bohemia in general, this place is steeped in history. Put on your most comfortable walking shoes, and start exploring.

NYC's Greenwich Village, what more can I say?!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/9/06
Aiight everyone I know its been a minute for me since I've been to Greenwich Village in lower Manhattan, NYC, but being BORN and RAISED in the WORLD'S greatest city I STILL am authoriry on the place and I have FOND memories of the Village. It is a matter of opinion but MOST people consider Chelsea and Soho to be a part of The Village, but there are so many things to do there if you EVER visit NYC, ESPECIALLY during the summer from watching the playground legends at 4th street park to eating at some of the finest restaurants the WORLD has ever known to being a STONE'S throw away from places like, Chinatown, Little Italy, Washington Square park, Battery Park and of course South Street Seaport. Again, if your EVER in New York City besides shopping on Park and Madison Ave's and going to 125th and Time Square, saunter over to Greenwich Village and have a blast! PEACE!!!

The village to visit
By X M, 7/17/06
Having lived in Greenwich Village I can testify to the charms of the village. It is a great place for shopping, walking, food, entertainment and watching the pulse of Big Apple. So put on your best footware, sun shades and hit the streets of the Greenwich Village, you will have the day of your life!
