I won't go back!!
By ,
I used to be a frequent customer of East West. But in the last 6 or 7 months it has lost all it's spirit. The clerks are at best distracted and at worst surly. The store is often in disarray and what little product they have is poorly displayed. The Yoga studio was closed with no advanced notice and many prepaid customers still have not gotten their money back. And now the cafe has stopped preparing its own food (which often was pretty good) and now just gets in prepackaged items. I don't know what happened, but it needs to be reversed and quickly or this store will go out of business. All of my friends who go there feel the same way and will not go back.

Cozy and enlightening
By ,
I liked this venue because it provided a wide variety of tools and resources one would need while on or embarking on a spiritual journey. Books, tapes, cds, videos, malas, posters, chimes, trinkets, crystals etc... you name it and it was there. The cozy part came when I went upstairs to their cafe, good quality food, there was a class about to start on Feng Shui. The staff was all so pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable on the times sold and of course the food served. Nice place to chit chat with a friend ...beign inspired.

Inspired Place
By ,
East West Books is a legend in NYC and this newly renovated mecca for the spiritual seeker has certainly been inspired by higher beings! Their stock of books on every topic from Buddhism to Zen to Judaica to the healing arts is unparalled. Not only that, they have the best crystal collection in New York and a trained staff who know what they are talking about. I've never seen a place when you walk in and instantly feel you've left the streets of New York and come into a sanctuary of calm, beauty and peace. One can spend hours there finding treasure after treasure. Its certainly the city's best kept secret, although when I was there the crowds kind of suggested that lots of people have found out about it now. Oh well, I don't mind sharing...

sacred healing space
By ,
As a spiritual psychotherapist I was so delighted when East West Books reopened. As soon as I came in, I felt the calm, healing, sacred atmosphere that permeated the place, itself. It is a true oasis in the city. The selection of books, and other sacred objects is amazing. In fact, I often send my own patients here after a session for further healing and inspiration. It is also a great source of gifts. I cannot praise East West Books, New York highly enough!

The calm within the storm
By ,
NYC never sleeps. The crowds, traffic, noise, fast pace are ever present, and 14th Street is hopping. The presssures and concerns of family, friends, health, jobs are often heavy companions on each day's journey. Sights, sounds, scents, atmosphere offering respite, comfort; the book - with just the right message; the silk pouch whose touch brings solace and is the perfect home for that mala; the gentle chimes that sooth the nerves on edge. Staff who are friendly, knowledgeable and concretely helpful. East West Books New York is a haven in the midst of the storm.

A truly enlightening experience!
By ,
The new East West Books is bigger and better than ever! It is a brighter, friendlier space, and now has a vegi/organic cafe and art gallery! They have books on everything from "A" (Astrology) to "Z" (Zen)! Including Buddhism, Indian Philosophy, Holistic Medicine, and Feng Shui. The jewlery selection is incredible, there is some truly unique stuff from all over the world - and fairly traded too! They always play great music in the store, and sell a wide variety of CDs that you just can't find anywhere else. You should check it out.. its worth putting up with a bit of scaffolding outside - look for the banners!
