Supper Club (The)
This club and restaurant in the middle of the Theater District features numerous fun bands, including one named for the club, one called 'The Yallopin Hounds' and even one mysteriously called 'The Jumping Gigolos.' The owners have taken the old ballroom of the Edison Hotel and decorated it with gilding, crystals and velvet, turning it into a romantic art deco masterpiece. The cover charge is $25 per person. The swing dancing, food and wine selections are all worth coming for.
The sad thing about all this is that it was at the end of our holidays in Phuket that we discovered the Supper Club. We had been to the usually marketed restaurants (one even touting itself as being rated by Tattler as the "The best food in Phuket")but all were, at best, bland.
We were tipped off about the Supper Club poolside as the 'word of mouth and chic place' to go. Obviously no marketing required here. The food was simply wonderful possibly because we were desperate for something familiar, who knows. The service was enthusiastic and efficiant and the atmosphere like a warm chair. The owner Shaun was a chip off the old colonial block as he spouted well embalmed charming sarcasm to all as if you were entering his living room.
I was told to have the lamb and were not dissapointed, it was as good as I have ever had. The rest had simple pizza which were also deliscious.
The room was filled with a mixture of expats and tourists (a combination we found nowhere else) so great chatter was happening everywhere with great jazz playing in the background.
If, like us, you couldn't deal with another chili then the Supper Club is your cure.
All restaurants could learn a thing or two from the Supper Club

Wonderful! When one is travelling in Asia great "western" food is a rare experience to come across. A bit tired from our days of hotel humdrum we were pointed to the Supper Club in Northern Phuket. Great atmosphere (Cool music choices) coupled with wonderfully presented and comfortable starters and mains.
The lamb was simply outstanding as was my companions grilled veal. The owner or chef just seems to have a knack for what tastes good and keeps it simple to boost flavours (I have never raved about mashed potatoes before).
My guest, herself a chef and blushing with jealousy, wanted to move the whole restaurant lock stock a barrel back to London. We are picky eaters at best and do not waste flattery but in this case do yourself a favour and make it a must.
