Antique Cafe, New York

Possibly something happened in the move from 65 west 26st to 55 west 26 st. Like they forgot how to cook and treat patrons. I recently went with friends to the antique Cafe at 55 west 26 St. in NYC. To sum up our dinner, it was very disappointing. We went there with great expectations, none of which were met. They didn't even come close. I had purchased a deal on Tipper ... perhaps I need to be more vigilant of their other deals as well. The food needed to be sent back as it was brought to the table cold. The Salmon was dry and my pasta was well over cooked to the point of being gummy. Our carafe of wine just passed for being wine at all ... I would call it a poor excuse for wine. There is no ambiance to be found in this place. Where they came up with the name, Antique Cafe has me still wondering. The evening that we were there, they had only one wait staff on hand and getting his attention took some work as he flew by our table. It actually took several requests just to get table settings. At least the waiter was apologetic. The only good thing about this place is that their prices are reasonable.

Took my wife out for a nice lunch today, so glad we came heere. Food was outstanding, simple but very good. The service is very friendly. Not far from our home we recently move to Chelsea 28 and Ave. of the Americas, will be back when we can, you have to try the Club sandwich, its out of this world

Spent a week grazing in New York City. Stumbled upon this one. Enticed inside by staff and ended up in heaven. From small plates to large it was all superb. Great local flavors that I'm sure the locals are keeping to themselves. The cheeseburger was just amazing....... Looking forward to come back this summer 2011

Nothing is cheap here. It's all class and delightful dining. Yes, the food isn't cheap either, but you're getting well prepared and presented choices. If you're in a rush, you may still have some trouble not being hypnotized by the dessert choices. They're all laid out right in front of you as you approach the counter. Better sit down and stay a while, let somebody bring you a menu instead. Or just grab a couple desserts and take a table, no judgments. They even have a little heated tent outside in case you can't find a seat, how creative and thoughtful! This is the sound of two hands clapping.

It's like a secret garden with all the greenery and artistry. Everywhere you turn you see warmth, texture, and savory choices. There's nothing to dislike about this little corner of the world. You will need a few minutes to choose your pastry, and more time to slowly sip your coffee. Don't come here in a hurry, let yourself relax and enjoy the little environment. It's a great hideaway!

I went to Antique cafe for lunch this past Friday, and tried the turkey lasagna for the first time. I got that and a side of baby arugula with pears and blue cheese. It was totally worth the money spent. ($11.95) I hope they serve it again and again, I'm going to keep checking their online menu (hint hint) but it was so delicious! The salad was a nice compliment to the main dish. By the way if I haven't mentioned it yet I loved the turkey lasagna! More please.

Well all I can say about this place is: Small but special. I don't know why it's called Antique Cafe, but I like it. The food is pretty good, maybe a little bit overpriced, but the space attracts a stylish and smart crowd of New Yorkers. I like coming here on the weekends best. I have nothing against small kids, but the space is so small it's hard to put baby strollers anywhere. I usually order omelets, which are made well and very quickly. There's something about this space that makes you want to write an epic novel, or maybe record some acapella jazz. There's way more to like than dislike about this place.

I have lived and worked here in Manhattan for almost 10 years, and Antique Cafe is close by. I usually go there in the morning, at least 3 or 4 times a month. I used to go when it was across the street from the indoor flea markets, then they moved quite a few years ago to the 26th street location. Maybe they went through some growing pains for a while there, but I've always had a good experience when I go there. Sometimes I just go in and out for coffee and a croissant, other times I bring friends for brunch. The staff is always helpful, to the point, and easy to deal with. The space itself is pretty small, so if you go in alone or with a friend, chances are you won't get a 4 seat table. What I have noticed in the past few visits is they seem to be improving both their food and service. It was pretty good before, sometimes amazing, but it's consistently better now. They have a surprisingly good wine selection for such a small space, though it's still known mostly for it's pastries and coffee I think. It's just a cool alternative to a lot of chain coffee places and restaurants. It may not knock your socks off, but it consistently delivers good food for a decent price. It's a neighborhood full of professional actors, artists, business people who demand a lot, and has managed to keep them coming back for all these years. Myself included.

I remembered this place from a recent visit in New York because it was kind of hidden off 6th avenue, heading toward Broadway. It was the end of summer and my friend I was visiting suggested we go there for lunch. When we first arrived I liked right away that it had a very artistic feeling to it, from the giant mural on the wall behind the counter to the banners overhead, a great deal of love went into the creation of this restaurant. That's not something I saw a lot of in New York, frankly. The food was delicious and pretty well priced, I had a great chicken salad dish, wine went well with my order. We got there late in the morning and it got very busy. For dessert a remarkable cheese cake. Delicious! The crowning jewel on the experience. I'd go back, it's upscale but not cold like so many places are now. Loved it!

The food was awful and service was slow. Unpleasant atmosphere (the hot tempered-owner, Marcial, was yelling at the staff while we were there)
