Southern cuisine lovers, stop here for an intimate dinner or a catered cocktail party. Small and warm, candlelit and romantic, Maroons has one room with a bar and dining area, and another with a dining and lounge area with oversized sofas. They serve delicious Jamaican and Southern cuisine, including crab cakes, fried green tomatoes and jerk chicken wings, as well as stuffed and smothered pork chops with grits and plantains, and broiled filet of red snapper with string beans and candied yams.
The food at Maroons will make your heart melt. If you are in the mood for the best corn bread you will ever have in the city. Maroons is very small in size so reservations are a MUST, and if you miss your reservation than you will wait at least an hour on a busy night. The food is well worth the wait.
I love this place! From the service, to the food the place was top notch and not that expensive. I would recommend this place to anyone that loves soul food and carribian food in a classy ambiance and for an affordable price.
the host was rude and snooty. we had to wait 15 minutes only to get seated next to the bar in a room with absolutely no air conditioning in 90 degree weather. the host did not accommodate us in any way even after seating us in a sauna. the waitress gave us average service but was at least nice. we had to wait at least 45 mins before we saw our food and at the time we went, the place wasn't even crowded. when the food finally arrived, it was mediocre at best. the fried chicken was a bit soggy and the jerk chicken was dry. we sweat through the meal until we couldn't take it anymore and left without eating most of it. it was really disappointing since we were looking forward to trying this restaurant after hearing good reviews about it.
I've eaten here a couple times and the food is always good (jerk chix wings, fried chicken, meat loaf, etc) but the service is terrible. Tonight was the worst experience by far. We waited only about 10 minutes to be seated, so I was surprised (it usually takes longer). After the waitress took our order the first time, she came back 10 minutes later and asked to take our order again. That was the warning sign. Then we waited 45 minutes before the first item of food showed up. And it was wrong. At that point we were fed up and left. Either order take-out or go early.
I went with 10 other people, and between all of us, I had a chance to sample a lot of the great foods Maroon had to offer. Weather you are in the mmod for southern food like fried chicken, grits, and mashed potatoes or you want a caribean meal like oxtail, jerk chicken, this is the place to go. I recomend the succotash. Not to mention the warm corn bread. The service was great even for our large group.
