Many of the buildings surrounding the park stand just as they did during colonial Spanish times. Aside from the numerous shops, hotels, and restaurants, you will also see a number of famous landmarks. Be sure to visit The Palace of the Governors , St. Francis Cathedral , and Loretto Chapel . The Spanish Market and the Santa Fe Indian Market are held here.
Wife and I have been to old town in ABQ and taos plaza which our nice places to but Sante Fe plaza is by far our favorite one to visit, seems to have alot more to see. Lots of lodging near the sqaure and places to sit down and have a meal. Just when we thought we seen it all we found other areas right off the square with either more shops or historic sights to enjoy.
My husband and 2 teenage daughters and I only had one day to spend in Santa Fe and I'm so glad we started and stayed in the Plaza area. Parking in a hotel lot was inexpensive and right on the plaza. We visited on a Saturday and although it was busy, it wasn't crowded.
The historical significance of the place has been very well preserved. The Palace of the Presidents was facinating with Native American vendors selling only native made goods, most made by the vendor or family members. Wares ran the gamut from sterling silver stamped guitar picks to exqusite jewelry and pottery.
It was an easy walk to many other places of interest and shopping and restaurants abundant. Would definitely go back. It was a fun, interesting and reasonably priced for a family on a camping vacation.
