Texans Beware!
Disclaimer: the following review was composed by a Texan...one well acquainted with good mexican food. Yes, I see you waving your hand and saying "but Tex-mex is different." Perhaps, but all I know is that there is good mexican food in Santa Fe....just not here!
While on a ski trip, we were encouraged to eat at Tomasita's as it was described as some of the best mexican food in Santa Fe. Im not sure where all the other reviewers are from, but the food here was pitiful nay pathetic. The chili relleno, which came highly recommended, looked and tasted like a frozen, fried brillo pad. My girlfriend's pork was equally uninspiring.
All dishes were served, unsuprisingly and to little avail, in a deluge of chili sauce. The excessive use of chilis was most likely an attempt to sear taste buds to a point that the quality of the food was peripheral to stopping the billowing smoke coming from one's mouth. The sopapillas, however, were good. We left the restaurant full but unsatisfied....try to imagine eating bologne and bread for a month.
If you are in Santa Fe and want great mexican food, head over to Los Mayas. Its 3 blocks away, and the chili relleno will make you weep.
