This golf course is owned and operated by the University of New Mexico and is ranked one of the "Top 25 Public Golf Courses" by Golf Digest Magazine. Locally referred to as UNM South Course, it boasts a great 18-holes, a beginner's 3-hole course and a hilltop driving range with an awesome view of the South Valley. Get a bucket of range balls to practice your tee shot. The course is impeccably manicured and maintained, and has been the site for the Men's 1998 NCAA Finals and several other major tournaments, including PGA and LPGA qualifying events.

A Tough Golf Test
By Berle, 10/03/05
This course hosted the NCAA championships a few years back and always hosts a major qualifier, Mountain West Conference tourney, sectional, regional, etc. It's a monster course that requires good shot placement and great putting skills. There are numerous tees to test your skills at the approriate course length. LOTS of changes in elevation test your club selection skills. The greens range from extra large to pinpoint and while they all "slope to the river" (the Rio Grande), you'll need a good eye to read the breaks and get the speed. The course is always in great shape and it's one of the three 'must play' if you visit Albuquerque. It will be among the best values you can get for a course of this quality, since it's fees are controlled by the State of NM. Play this course first and then try the others and see if you don't agree, particularly about the value.
