Mr. Powdrell's Barbeque House
Since 1969 the Powdrell family has been making barbecue favorites such as ribs, chicken, fresh pork, beef brisket and link sausage. The restaurant on Forth Street is a renovated, historic landmark. The country-style decor is simple and goes well with the down-home style food. The meats are tender and juicy and catering for business luncheons and special occasions is available.
A friend and resident of Santa Fe suggested Powdrell's Barbeque House. The Powdrell Family has been in the business since 1871 and they sure know their BBQ!
I ordered the daily special which was fried catfish and an order of any meat with two side dishes. The catfish was excellent! The pork spareribs were tender but not falling off the bone, succulent and smokey-the way I like my ribs.
I brought 2 bottles of Powdrell's BBQ Sauce home. Their sauce is a winner.
A photo of film maker Spike Lee and Mr. Powdrell are on display in the main dining room. I am sure Mr. Lee can confirm all the good things I have said about Powdrell's. Powdrell's is an Albuquerque Gem.
The people that own the place are great, they will come by and sit and chat with you, and everything on the menu is delicious! The best part is the barbecue sauce is for sale, so you can take it home and put in on some of your own dishes.
