Blue & Gold Fleet
Blue & Gold Fleet is one of the most popular ferry services in the Bay Area, serving thousands of tourists and locals each year. Turn to them for a cruise around the San Francisco Bay, a trip to Alcatraz Island , or transportation to an amusement park in Vallejo. Some other tours offered go to attractions like Yosemite, Monterey, Carmel, the wine country, Angel Island , Muir Woods , Tiburon and Sausalito. Visit the website for more information.
We took the Blue and Gold Ferry from Sausalito to Fisherman's Wharf. The boat was a boat, the crew were awesome but wow was it expensive! $9 per person each way. Needless to say we only took it the one time. Since we did all our traveling by public transportation we used the Translink cards which gave us a discount on the Goldengate Lines which ended up costing half that for me and even less for my Mom. But the Goldengate Ferry doesn't go to Pier 39 so you have to get a cable car to the Wharf.
We boarded the Golden Bear boat for a bay tour, and I was ablsolutely disgusted. The boat itself was a tub! The paint was chipped, the seats torn, and there were rust marks down to the water line all over the boat.. When we got to the top deck amongst all the other passengers, many from overseas, we were mortified to see the most repulsive tattered, faded american flag hangin from the mast. This is our national symbol, the representation of the pride we hold for our country, and it looked like a dishrag. My husband who is retired navy, was embarassed at this disrespectful display of our country's flag. Welcome to America people, where we could give a rat's butt as to how we display our treasured and beloved "Old Glory" to the visitors of our country. Blue and Gold Fleet should take a long hard look at how they are representing our country. How could the people who run this outfit not be aware of the negative image they are portraying about Americans.
What more can I say? You are on the water...you can feel the mist...you can smell the air...and you can hear some history...there is alot to see. I could ride forever. It's one of those things where you fee a little sad when it's over.
We used Blue and Gold fleet for a cruise around the bay. It was an absolutely gorgeous day, but the wind did make it a little bit chilly. With the cruise you see a view of the city, cruise under the golden gate bridge, and get a view of alcatraz. the history presented in the audio is also pretty interesting. However, if you have the time, I'd recommend getting more up close and personal with sites such as alcatraz, the golden gate bridge, and sausalito. This cruise around the bay is more for people with time crunches.
We used Blue and Gold for our trip to Alacatraz Island. The people we came in contact were helpful, like you would expect. When we returned we were surprised to be presented with a package of photos that we had posed for prior to leaving for Alcatraz. Yes, I would recomend Blue and Gold for their services.

by design. The tower is the gift of Lilly Hitchcock Coit, an eccentric heiress who managed to stand out ...
