Located in Golden Gate Park , this garden is a marvel of the landscape architects art. This traditional Japanese garden covers five acres. Several paths take you by an authentic pagoda, a monumental Buddha, a miniature waterfall, and over an acutely arched bridge that no kid can resist. Overlooking the gardens Koi-filled pond is a Japanese-style tea house, which in spring is covered with a cascade of wisteria. The gift shop sells souvenirs with a Japanese flair.

Nice but too crowded
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/12/09
I went here on saturday; it was not only on a fee (i think it is free during the week) but also incredibly crowded. I still suggest to go there but if you can go in week days.

Just as you would expect, the Japanese Tea Garden has amazing views and each place you stop, you'll eye will be pleased. Beautiful, artful landscapes.

Excellent Moment
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/09/08
I loved the Garden, truely beautiful especially in April. So many wonderful looking flowers and plants. Very peaceful. Do take the time to have a cup of tea at the tea house and gently sit at one of the many benches in the garden. It is a wonderful place to take many stunning photographs.

Ugh
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/06/08
Horrible place to visit. The signs outside the gate say 'FREE ADMISSION'. The only part that we didn't see at the time was 'On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM' or something like that. Not only that, but it was not very peaceful at all. Way over-crowded and there were children running this way and that. Overall, not very worth it.

i've seen better
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/16/08
it was waaay too crowded the day i went. instead of it being a peaceful garden, kids were running around everywhere and it was difficult to take pictures. Portland's japanese gardens are nicer, though not as big.

PEACEFUL AND SERENE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/10/08
Walking through the gate you really don't know what to expect, but once you walk the grounds it's like being in a Japanese fairy tale. It's almost otherworldly, just when you think it can't get more beautiful, IT DOES!! The walk is very easy ,there are a few inclines but you ARE in San Francisco and the price ($4) is worth it and it goes back to the community who take care of the grounds. Early in the morning it's free and you won't have to deal with masses of people. It's close to the DeYoung Museum and the California Academy of Sciences so make a day of it you won't be disappointed. Have lots of film on hand, I can't imagine a bad picture can be taken. ENJOY. P.S. The Moon Bridge is a must.

nice and calm place to visit
By joseph, 02/07/08
The garden was so beautiful. I live in fort worth and the Japanese garden here is also beautiful and larger, too. But it's not as green and vibrant. Everything seems more authentic and well organized. An ideal trip to the SF Japanese Tea Garden would be minimal tourists, light breeze and sunshine, and unlimited film. The tea house was nice, too.

Beautiful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/12/08
I was visiting from the East coast and just went for a week to see this garden, but it made an impression on me. I would recommend for anyone interested in this type of thing. It was very lovely.
