Golden Gate Park

Description

In the late 1800s, a Scotsman named John McLaren transformed more than 1,000 acres (405 hectares) of sand dunes into a wondrous haven in the midst of busy city life. Stretching over 50 blocks from Stanyan Street to the Pacific Ocean, the lush landscaping features ever-changing settings at every turn. There are trails for walking, jogging, biking, horseback riding, as well as a golf course, lawn bowling greens, a lake with paddle boats, soccer fields and a baseball diamond. For those seeking less strenuous diversion, check out the California Academy of Sciences and an authentic Japanese Tea Garden. For families with children, there are playgrounds, a live buffalo reserve and a carousel. A Shakespeare Garden can also be found by going down a hidden lane in the park.

Park is a must see lots to do
By ,
We spent a full day in the Park. visited the Academy of sciences (very cool building) and the Japanese Tea Garden. Both the Planetarium and Aquarium were worth the price to get in the California Academy. We loved the Japanese tea garden more than our teens. Had lunch at the restaurant near the windmill. never could find the buffalo. Did see the Segway tour go by. We took the Segway tour in the Wharf. next trip bikes or Segway tour to get around as the park was much larger than we had expected. A good place to spend the entire day. we did not have time to go in the Deyoung museum but we did go to the top of the tower. amazing view and great spot for pictures.

Great Park
By ,
This is a really cool place to walk around, chill out, eat. Also it is fun to go to the top of the museum where you can see all of SF - there is also a huge map there where you can pinpoint your location.

Gorgeous!

The park was beautiful! There are many activities to choose from while in the park. We spent an entire afternoon in Golden Gate Park and still didn't see everything! Can't wait to go back!

Wonderful!!!
By ,
If you like the outdoors, you must check out the Golden Gate Park! The Conservatory of Flowers (inside the park) alone is worth it! Many fun things to see and do! At the end of the park are two big windmills, not very exciting...but nice to go see!

A Major Disappointment
By ,
I was expecting a beautiful, well-kept park, but this is far from it! Grass was over-grown, flower bed were full of weeds, and there was trash everywhere. Homeless people were not uncommon and the restroom was the most disgusting that I have ever encountered. I wonder if it has ever been cleaned. We visited the Japanese Tea Garden and since it was a public park we thought that it would be free and open to the public, but there was a fee to get in. We did not visit any other the other attractions. It was difficult to manuver through the park as well because there are not signs to point you in the direction of attractions. For a city park that is supposed to be such a high light of the city, I was very disappointed and would never recommend the experience to anyone.

Fun place to hang out

Check out the concerts in summer. It's a really fun place for a lot of stuff. I love the Japanese garden. Nice to browse around Haight before heading to the park.
