Alcatraz Island, San Francisco County

a tourist trap , however, it is unbelieveable and definitely worth the wait and the trip. It is amazing how these "people" lived both cons and staff.

One of the best parts of my trip to SanFrancisico. Very interesting. The closing of the cell doors was thought provoking. The head phone tour very infomative. Take the evening tour You get to see the city in the day light and then returning you get to see the lights of the city, very cool.

Take the tour of Alcatraz with the headphones, you find out all of the history of the island Capone, the Birdman, the infamous escape everything. The boat ride is about 10-15 minutes with spectacular views of the city on one side then an awe inspiring circle of the the island until you land at the entrance, take many pictures as you circle the island it's really cool. We took the night tour that began at 430PM, but I say go a bit earlier esp. if you plan to visit in the fall and winter months. It will get dark really fast on you and the picture and exploration opts lessen. The last boat leaves at 730PM so you can stay all day if you want. Have fun!! P.S. Dress accordingly it will get cold the later you stay.

As we left for Alcatraz on the boat, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset behind the Golden Gate Bridge. The boat was full of people, but we stood outside and took many pictures of San Francisco. There is a short semi steep walk up to the prison, but worth it. As the sun went down, we toured the prison with the audio guide (a must). To see how the prisoners were contained and the daily routines they went through was very educational. When we were done, we ended in the dining area. A tour guide took 10 of us up to the hospital area. There was no light except for my camcorder and his flash light. This was truly an awesome experience. To see the "Birdman's" cell, operating tables and old medical equipment with little light. I will go again, but next time in the morning so I have more time to see the island. Also I took all three of my children, two that are 10 and 11 years old, they enjoyed it as much as I did.

The ferry trip scenery was absolutely beautiful... looking back and seeing the streets of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge - everything about it. Alcatraz itself was worth every penny. Wouldn't miss it for the world - informative, easy to go through with headsets, gift shop, nice and clean. If you're going to San Fran, make sure this is one of your stops!!

I like everything about the alcatraz. Rent the headphones to hear all about the different areas within the prison as well as the lore of the infamous inmates. My children (age 6 and 8) really enjoyed the experience. The price was very reasonable and you can stay on the island as long as you want. I would like to do the tour at night next time.

I loved everything about Alcatraz. I visited it on Saturday by boat and then swam from there on Sunday. I think I liked the swim most of all but the tour was awesome. I opted not to listen to the audio, instead I went directly to the guide who was very interesting and knew everything including dates about all the prisioners and wardens. Very Cool. I look forward to swimming the Escape From Alcatraz Race on June 8th 2008. This time I hope to not crash on the bike portion.

i like it because it is historical,interesting, and fun. i would love to go back when ever i have the time. i will go over and over and over again. just because it is a great experience to have.

This is something that everyone has to try. It's a wonderful experience. From the boat ride to the neat atmosphere of the prison, this is fun for the whole family.

We found it difficult to keep up with the audio tour because there are sooooooooo many people on the island. It was a bit pricey, but the value was ok.
