Alcatraz Island, San Francisco County

don't bother. its such a bad tourist area. go to the japanese tea garden in the park instead. its much more of a worth while thing to do.

I went to Alcatraz with my family to celebrate a birthday. I had not been there in years and only remembered it being cold, muggy and creepy! This time when I went back, I was suprised of how clean it was and very organized. I loved the earphones they provide you with so that you can go on tour on your own pace.

The tour is facinating, the view from the island is breath taking and the whole trip is an adventure in itself.

It was amazing. it is a long walk and very creepy.

Be prepared to hike. There is a lot more history to the island that you will learn. You get headphones to get a guided tour when you enter where the general population was held. They even show you where a prison break was attempted. You are able to walk freely around, even out in the yard. I was hoping that they would give you the option to be locked in the cell and you would be able to hear the sound of all of the doors closing, but that did not happen. You are able to walk into an empty cell for a photo opp though. Wear your comfortable walking shoes and give yourself at least 4 hours. Oh, and be sure to go to the restroom at the bottom where you catch the ferry. The only other restroom is at the top and it is a unisex restroom that smells very bad.

We went by helicopter we got a great San Francisco Vacation Package and the ride was included. I have always seen it from the bridge.

Alcatraz is definetly a place to visit while you are in San Francisco. The audio tour was very good and it was amazing to walk through the prison as well as actaully stand in a prison. I had a great time!

i liked about it being so large, and experiencing the inside temperature. the experience was simply awsome!! i also visited it during the school year. it was pretty empty, so it was a little scary.

I was saddened by the cell size and the history associated with this place. I wanted to see it for my self. It is a place I'm glad I saw, would not go again.

it was interesting to be in an old jail, but it was kinda scary. i did injoy myself while i was there though. i travel a lot and i think this was one of the best places yet. it deserves a hearty WOW!!!!!!!! really, rbzf
