This large Japanese bookstore, appropriately, is placed in the heart of Japantown in the Kinokuniya Building. It features hundreds of titles written in Japanese, and a smaller percentage of books in English, Korean and Tagalog. You'll find newspapers, magazines, comics, hardcover and paperback fiction, nonfiction, business, philosophy, religious-related topics and more. Kinokuniya Bookstore also sells Japanese videos and music CDs, stationary and small gifts like nice pens and journals. Extremely popular, it is patronized by both tourists and regular customers.
When I went to Japan last year, I was surprised at first to see people in stores being able to read books without the obligation of buying. One of my favorite places to go browse was in Kinokuniya, though I almost always made sure to buy something.
Almost like being in Nihon, loads of people perusing the magazines for awhile and a very good selection; albeit some of the arts magazine choices are not as wide as the one in NYC...Then again, if you see an issue to your liking, get it straight away as they sell out fast!
Service is lovely and they are sweet enough to put up notes of the next shipment date and when things will possibly be in store.
This is my second home!!!!
I feel in love with this bookstore the very first time that I walked into it! Everything about it is just amazing! =) Whether you are a fan of manga, anime, music, or just anything that has to do with Japan you will love this store! Every time I go to San Francisco it is one of my first destinations! You do not wanna miss this place!
always the place i go to because it's one of the best bookstores I've ever been to. Whether it's in San Jose, LA, or SF, it rocks~! The service is great and the products are always in mint condition. ^^v
