In 1953, Buena Vista Cafe served San Francisco the first Irish Coffee it had ever tasted. There is a rumor that it was the first one ANYONE had tasted. Almost fifty years later, it makes an estimated 2,000 of the drinks each day, packing its old mahogany bar (and its consistent queue) primarily with Fisherman's Wharf tourists. The view, which encompasses Ghirardelli Square , The Cannery , the Wharf, and much of the Bay, is amazing.

What an awesome place! Traditional and Historic San Francisco at its best. Almost always crazy crowded and noisy...and that is part of its charm. Just let me in for those fabulous Irish coffees! To watch the bartender make 20 at a time is entertaining. Food is good here too. I particulary love to come when they first open for a window table overlooking the bay for breakfast, and yes, an Irish coffee. You'd be surprised how many of us love to do this.

A Coffee Drinkers PARADISE!!!

The Buena Vista is the most beautiful, relaxing, unbelievable experience around. Great Irish coffee, great atmosphere, incredible people. Just an overall wonderful experience. This is the MUST STOP on your vacation to San Francisco. It’s just a fun place to sit at the bar & enjoy good times with good people. The architecture is unbelievable. Its as if you are transformed into an old world coffee house!!!! BEST STOP IN SAN FRAN!!!!!
