Some people complain that the Castro has become like Christmas, commercialized and trendy. If so, then Pilsner Inn is one of the last authentic Castro establishments. Unpretentious and down to earth, this is a good bar to meet old friends or to find some new ones. The atmosphere is sports-oriented, with pool, darts, and a smoking patio. Microbrew fans will enjoy the glycol beer system, consisting of 15 different home-made draft varieties. Call ahead for details.
This is on the top of my list of gay bars in the Castro. I love the patio which is allegedly for smokers but it's a nice place to hang out even if you aren't a smoker. I used to live in San Diego and every bar had a patio. I wish SF had more. And this bar has a lot of male clientele but I'm female and feel right at home here. Good selection of imported and draft beers. If you don't like "scenes" but want a nice place for a drink this is it. Does get extremely packed especially at night. It opens pretty early (about 10 am I think) if you want a more quiet scene.
