Dead Fish (The), Crockett

I have been to this restaurant before and was very impressed with service, food and ambience. This 2nd visit at 5.00pm on a Thurs was very disappointing. 1 I was shown to a table and after 5-10 mins had to ask for a busboy to find the waiter so that I could have a drink. 2 I ordered Rabbit. I am European and used to eating and cooking rabbit. This was hard and dry. I returned it and was told the 'Master Chef said this is how we cook it'. I had an appetizer instead. 3 I do not expect to pay these prices and have a waiter say 'are you dun'when he took the bread plate. 4 After the entrees were delivered, the waiter as he was passing by said 'enjoy your meal'. He did not stop in his stride. He did not ask us if everything was OK. 5 The coffee was delivered and the milk/cream was straight from the fridge. Consequently the already lukewarm coffee was now cold which didn't matter much as it tasted as though it had been made the day before. I will try the restaurant again as I enjoyed it the first time. But if I have another night like tonight - that will be my last time. It was truly the most disappointing meal I have had in a long time.

Went there early (4:00pm)on a Friday. The calamari was warm, and mostly breading, the caeser salad was wilted, the sizzling seafood platters were way too salty. The waiter came by once and poured water (which dripped into my plate and over my food). The portions were small, service was lousy and so was the food. We had been there twice before, but will not return. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money.

We love going to the Dead Fish, our favorite dish is double shrip double crab. You have to try it. we know you'll love it. We can't wait to go again. The Brown Family

I wrote the Shockingly Good review, and I went back for a second visit today and was disappointed. I ordered another Slab, and the waiter said "Here's your Large Cut" as he set it down, but I wasn't sure that was what he said, although I did notice the cut was much smaller than the last one. It was also very very fatty, and when I left most of the fat on my plate, the waitress asked if I wanted to take it home, thinking that there was so much of it, it had to be meat. I said it was all fat, and then when she brought the check, she said "I only charged you for a Large Cut because of all the fat." At that point, I realized why the waiter had said "Large Cut" and also why it looked so much smaller--it was only a Large Cut, but the waitress didn't want to admit their mistake. So this time the Prime Rib wasn't as good, and I didn't like the way the waitress handled the mistake that was made. I will go back one more time and see if the good experience was a fluke, or if the bad one was.
