Since 1978 this neighborhood favorite has being serving the Sunset District fine Italian delicacies. Reflecting an old-fashioned elegance and grace are tuxedoed waiters and a refined, recently refurbished decor. The menu emphasizes Italian cuisine from the Tuscany region and fine seafood dishes. For an appetizer try the Shrimp Marcello. Homemade pasta is prepared fresh daily then drenched in rich, thick sauces. Notable meat entrees include the Veal Picatta. The wine list is extensive, serving Italian and Californian wines.
anyone who grew up in new york, new jersey, or CT always misses the type of old-school italian restaurants we used to have there. Most of the italian restaurants in san francisco are trying too hard to be experimental and nouveau. But Marcello's is old school and classic. No towers, no foams or vapors, no panko-encrustations, just good traditional northern-italian cuisine. Food isn't a game for Marcello's, its a serious and professional business. They have the best veal in the city, an excellent range of dishes, and the service is top-notch. And, unlike most other good san francisco restaurants, it isn't loud and annoying. On the contrary, the ambience is wonderful, quiet, a perfect place to be able to have a nice conversation while you eat. It is a generally family-friendly place although if your kids don't know how to behave in a nice restaurant then forget about it.
and there is one more major plus: because marcello's is located in the outer sunset, you can actually park when you get there! I have never, in the years I've been dining at Marcello's had to park more than a block away.
When you're through fooling around and want to get serious about good italian food, head out to Marcello's!
