This restaurant prepares some of the best seafood dishes on Fisherman's Wharf, which is no small feat considering the competition. The dining room is a bit old-fashioned, yet also contemporary and not very unusual. The menu focuses on fresh seafood that is either sauteed or broiled. Enjoy Dungeness Crab, prawns, scallops, calamari, abalone, swordfish, salmon, oysters and clams. House specialties include a Spicy Cioppino (seafood stew) and a Filet Mignon and Lobster Tail combo. The wine list is adequate, featuring domestic and imported wines with the average price of $30.
This is our favorite place to eat in San Francisco. It is WELL worth the wait. The seafood is the best I've found and the place exudes CLASS. Waitstaff are excellent. It's your loss if you don't experience it.
It was my first vacation trip to the US with my eldest sister. My cousin Tony and his pretty wife Edna, with their lovely daughter Elaine treated us to a sumptuous dinner at Scoma's, after a very tiring tour of the Alcatraz last June 4th. I just loved the lobster and the scallops, and the place was great for fine, romantic dining!!!
I hope my cousins will treat me again in this superb seafood restaurant next time!!!
We went here on my 2006 band trip. Ant I loved it. If you get the chance go there just before sunset, because they are right on the water and the large windows provide a lovely view. The food was amazing and the waiter was very helpful when one of us knocked his glass over. Overall, an 3xcellent expereince.
This place has a really nice ambience (right on the warf) and the appetizers are fantastic, but that's about it. After ordering a $32 seafood pasta entree, I was very disappointed to find that it had little flavor and the seafood tasted like iodine. If you need a seafood fix, don't go to this tourist trap. Find yourself a Red Lobster and get the Ultimate Feast for $20- it's a much better deal!
I did like the ambiance. I liked where it was located. The food was OK.
I think that for the price, the food was not all that great. I was told that it was the best place around, and it was a required stop for any tourist. My wife and I decided to go at lunch time to avoid high prices (that didn't work) and a long wait.
We shared a shrimp cocktail (or maybe it was a prawn cocktail) and the pasta diplomatica. To be completly fair, I am not much for white fish, and that was all that was in the pasta diplomatica, but I was able to eat it.
For the price, i guess that i expected a bit more flavor, and i am judging the food off of 2 dishes.
THE pre dinner BREAD!!! wonderful!!!
pasta diplomatica, shrimp cocktail, 2 waters and tip came out to be 64.08. I can find better deals out there for my dollar.
Recommend this place to folks who are looking for a romantic dinner for two, or maybe thinking of popping the question.
Would suggest calling ahead and making reservations.
I like EVERYTHING about Scoma's! The food is outstanding, the service is personable and efficiant, and you just can't beat the ambiance.
I had the finest meal in my LIFE at Scoma's on my honeymoon. It was a seafood pasta special at lunch in simply the finest white cream sauce I have ever tasted.
Ten of us had a great meal in the Venturi Room last January, and I highly reccomend dining there to anyone going to the Bay Area and is looking for the quintesential San Francisco culinary experience.
I have been in the food and beverage business for over thirty years, and I don't anticipate Scoma's being pushed out of my top 5 favorite restaurants in my lifetime.
We went to Scoma's at around 3pm and had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. Our server was so nice, refilled drinks and even had one of the entrees blackened even though it wasn't posted that way in the menu. We didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive. The table could have been a little larger, but that didn't stop us from having a great time. If you love seafood, then Scoma's is your place. Eating at non-peak times is perfect. You don't have to worry about waiting and the servers can give you more of their attention.
The food was fantastic. While I reated the ambiance only good, it was very unique. I was told by a friend to try Scoma's out and when we arrived I thought my friend was nuts, but after entering the restaurant I couldn't agree more with my friend that this was a great place. The service was impecable. Very knowledgable wait staff about the wines on hand, and the seafood is cooked to perfection! The price was reasonable given the "San Francisco" factor. I highly recommend Scoma's.
