Franciscan Restaurant, San Francisco

We arrived late (10:30-ish) after the Alcatraz night tour. We were seated immediately but our server wasn't very interested in doing anything above taking our order and bringing our check. She seemed annoyed that we took time to read the menu and make up our minds about what to order. The food was good (crab, cioppino, seafood alfredo, and vegetarian pasta)and the view was gorgeous (overlooking the bay). Very pricey, but definitely worth at least one visit while in town!

We had a great dinner at the Franciscan! The view was wonderful! Our food was very well prepared and we had a great waiter! This was our opportunity to blend 2 families together - and we had a great time!

When I was a kid, this was the place to go. And the food was good! After being away for a number of years I had an opportunity to eat there recently. Never again. The food, service and value are all saying "Have a nice time in San Francisco, give us your money, and we don't care if you ever come back"! I never will. You won't see locals in here...just tourists. They don't matter.

It was our 36th wedding anniversary. We sat at a very good table, great view of the bay. But,I did not like the fact that I had to look around and motion the waiter to bring more coffee, more water, take away the empty dishes. He was not very attentive, more interested in laughing and talking with the hostess. I did not like the fact that other people brought our food, drinks, dessert, etc. They were too impersonal, just setting down what they brought, and, no smile or warmth, just putting down, turning quickly and leaving, almost just dropping it. I've had better and more delicious food at many other restaurants. We ordered the Petrale. It was cooked in a metal oval pan, it stuck to the bottom of the pan, the yukon potatoes were cut large, almost not cooked, kinda hard, no flavor to them at all. The artichoke hearts served with it tasted the best. They did not even give us a free dessert to celebrate our anniversary, which is quite the norm in many restaurants.

My husband and I were very disappointed during our latest dining experience. Our evening started with the hostess rolling her eyes when we requested a table. We then mentioned that we didn't mind the wait and that we would have drinks at the bar. I had the Cioppino and my husband had the Sturgeon and both meals were awful!!! After tipping generoulsy 15% even though the service was also terrible, the waitress approached us as we were leaving and complained about her tip. NOT IMPRESSED WITH OUR EXPERIENCE.

6 adults enjoyed the crab feast at lunch time...the view was great. Loved the crab!!! Breads were good, but our focus just stayed on the crab! Not a budget place to eat, but for vacation dining, worth the price!

pretty good food , descend service, courteous servers. great drinks,but need more food variety. very romantic place for a date , even for agroup or business.great for lunch on the week end even with a family! and kids!
