Salt & Sweet Restaurant, Melbourne

I first ate at this restaurant on a visit to my brother who lives in the area. I treated him (for a change.) We had excellant fish dishes and when the bill arrived I nearly laughed out loud... very reasonable for the quality of food, service and the ambiance. I went back while on vacation with my wife. We had great food and a lovely merlot... all very reasonable . A few nights later I asked my wife what she wanted to do for dinner. Ha, ha. S & S were out of the great merlot we had so I asked if they had any lambrusco (I know, not epicurean, but I love the stuff) and was not disappointed. If you go there and are disappointed... send me the bill.

If you are a servers provider don't go there. I was called out on a saturday for a back up. They ask serveral time for me to come. I couldnt get the block out because of so much water and told them I would be back on Monday morning. After returning monday they had someone else do the work and now they refuse to pay for my 2 hour of work. The owners and really hatefull people and just yelled the whole time. This people sure doesnt need to be in the service industry.

This lovely little restaurant is tucked away in a strip mall on Lake Washington Blvd in Melbourne, Do not be among those silly snobs that think this makes a difference. Patrons will generally follow good food wherever they find it and offer kudos where respect is deserved. In this case, it's major R.E.S.P.E.C.T. The restaurant itself is well decorated, has a lovely ambience, a nice selection of wines, and portions are very generous, though some will find it slightly pricey. All this takes back seat, however, to the food itself. Highest praise goes to their soups. My husband tried the cabbage soup, which was yummy, but baby was sent to the corner after tasting the pickle soup. Those who have not tried eastern european food may be unfamiliar with pickle soup, but this is the time to be adventurous and try the unique and flavorful Polish dish. The beef strogranoff my husband ordered was excellent, but I was disappointed that they were out of the dish I was most interested in ....Zrazy Polski. Disappointment was shortlived when the potato pancakes with goulash arrived at the the recomendation of the waiter, a reserved, but delightful and respectful young man, who turned out to be the son of the cook/chef. I adore this restaurant and plan to visit it again before I head home later this week. I only hope that the next time I travel to this area, Salt & Sweet will not only still be here, but recognized as one of the top ten local restaurants! Love it...mean it...try it!

Service was poor. Wait staff were not friendly at all. Did not want a side that came with meal, they gave me a different side and charged me for it. They tacked on a 20% tip for our party without telling us or showing on the menu. All of the people in our group were not very happy with the food, prices and service and will not go back. Everyone said they will let their friends know about this, and not recommend this place.

Very good Polish/Hungarian food, good service & ambience and reasonable prices. Nice change of pace from the usual. Note: beer & wine only.
