Decided to give this place a try 5/18/12.. The Ambience was good, we were there early obviously before the dinner crowd as there were about 7 servers with 6 of them having nothing to do. The salad was a little too vinegary and salty.. We ordered the Baked Ziti.. They had just finished remodeling the place according to the server and were going to be re-doing the menus therefore the pasta dishes were not in the menu handed to us but written on a white menu board in blue.. The Baked Ziti was very good. However when the bill came there was a price discrepancy between the menu board price of the Ziti and the price charged to me. I pointed it out to the waiter who took it to the Owner/Manager an older Italian woman and she denied giving me the price on the menu board, instead changed the menu board to the price I was charged and said I had to pay the higher price.. If not for the poor customer service regarding their error I would rate higher and return to the restaurant, but I won t.
I found the food was over rated. Been there twice now once with coupon and once without. First time without coupon tried the pizza - lousy no taste, crust seemed dry. This time tried the pasta - YUCK. Hardly any sauce, and meatballs were not even whole meatballs. The salad appetizer with house dressing was way too vinegary. Also unappetizing was being served on a plate that had not one, but two large chips in it.
I will not bother going back again. Rather have a Digarno frozen pizza
I have been visiting this restaurant weekly since last December. The pizza truly is the freshest and best tasting I've found since moving to the JAX area. Yes, the service can sometimes be slow, especially on Friday nights, but you must remember this is not a large pizza chain. It is a small family-run business with only one large coal fired pizza oven. But the food is always worth the wait. It doesn't matter if you order pizza, wings, or an entree, the quality is always top notch. People even rave about their homemade salad dressing. I've never had bad service or a bad meal at Pompeii Pizza. The fact that most patrons quickly become regulars is a testament to the quality of their food. Given them a chance. If you don't like to wait for your freshly prepared and baked pizza, call ahead. You won't be disappointed.
Fresh and yummy. Food is great. The waitstaff is another story. Last time we dined in our waitress sucked. First she didnt address us - just walked with the menus to a a table. She never smiled or made us feel welcomed. We ordered for the table to share pizza, a salad and wings -- but she forgot to put in our 20 piece wing order. When everything else came out we asked about it and she was like - oh I didnt know you really wanted it ... she then put it our order (we changed to a 10 piece) and we didnt get a sorry, or a comp for the long delay.
This place should rethink who it hires. That poor representation is enough to keep me from patronizing a lovely local merchant. Small Retailers treat your customers with respect and we'll keep your doors open. Ignore or keep stupid staff and we will bring our dollars to the mass chains.
The place is a little small. It seems like everyone is eating on top of each other. The pizza and cheese bread was good. Can't remember what they called. Maybe next time I'll try something different on the menu.
