Went around during dinner hour on a Friday night and didn't find to be overly busy. Wait time for food was not bad at all. Large menu selection for a vegetarian restaurant, most dishes are made up of some type of bread/pancake. Portion size was very large, especially for the price. The tomato omelette, sambar (lentil soup), onion rava masala, and milk tea were all tasty. Service could use some improvement and the place was filled with loud/screaming kids jumping all over chairs/booths. Overall I would highly recommend it and look forward to going back.
This is the most authentic (and amazing) South Indian food I've probably ever had. The dosas are huge and are a meal by themselves. I highly recommend them. Combo meals are great if you want to try several dishes. If you have a bigger appetite get the Saravana Special. The service is very fast and like the other reviewers said, even if there's a large crowd the tables turn relatively quickly. The hostess suggested coming on a Tuesday or Wednesday night when it's less busy. If you are going on Thurs-Sunday try to get there before 7 pm if you want to completely avoid waiting.
I'm not a vegetarian but the food is so good I don't even care that they don't serve meat. :-)
As far as ambiance a funny thing I noticed is no one really dresses up to go there unless it's a Friday or Saturday night...then they are decked out. Nothing is different, no candles or any change in the atmosphere but people are wearing their best clothes. So you'd be fine either casual or dressy.
Excellent food and great service. We go there almost every other weekend. If you want to try authentic south indian food than this is THE place. It does get crowded on weekends after 8:30 pm so go early.
This is the second time it happenned to me. I went to the restaurant around 9 pm sh. They served the Idlis with almost 75% of original size and luke warm(The Idlis which used to be great earlier ). The sambar was old and looked like altered adding more water.
When I asked them they said it was almost over. But why did they not tell me when I was ordering.
It also happenned a month ago when I ordered a Dinner thali around 9:30sh. It came almost a full half hour later with left overs and cold stuff.
If this pathetic scenario continues, they will loose their charm soon.
