Chef/Owner Tito Perez discovered his passion for cooking in his young college years back in El Salvador. In 1980 he fulfilled his dream to extend his carreer in the food industry. He spent the following ten years at Rio Grill (Carmel), Delfino's Ristorante (Monterey Plaza) and mainly at Flahertys in Carmel. In 1991 he joined Maureen Signorella owner of Pasta Mia an Italian restaurant (Pacific Grove, CA) where he fell in love with the fine cooking of Italy. So happy this little gem is in Marina! Excellent food, service and ambiance. My husband & I dined here last night for the first time. Boy did we feel silly for being residents of Marina and having not discovered this wonderful restaurant sooner. I should state my comments below may be compared to any of the 5 star restaurants in our area for food & service.
I ordered ala carte & hubby had an entree. We both started with the Insalata della Casa w/ house dressing. One of the best. Also warm basket of fresh bread w/ olive oil & balsalmic vinegar was devoured... I went with cup of the clam chowder and crab cake appetizer and my husband had the Linguini alla Florentina. We like to share and this worked very well for us here. Chowder, not something I usually order as I am usually sorry I took the chance. Again, this is one of the best chowders, if not the best in our area. We both loved my carb cakes & his pasta. We pared all of this with a nice glass of Pinot Grigio. We were both too full for dessert, this time. I highly recommend this restaurant. Price is very fair. My husband & I will soon be considered as regulars , we plan to return often.
This is the best clam chowder I have ever had...better than San Francisco chowder and places I've eaten down here in San Diego. Also recommend their fried calamari...lightly breaded and caught fresh as well as the chicken piccata. If you decide you want to order the calamari entree I would recommend it.... or instead order the calamari appetizer and a cup of clam chowder and the special dessert ask about it a chocolate volcano cake mmmm. Using my way you get a lot more calamari and a chowder. There is a servers named Frank Or Sonia will treat you great and they are both brother and sister and Sonia is the owner which makes it very cool and they make u feel at home. Best Place to eat they really know how to cook and they make their competition look like beginners i love this place and its new as well so give it a try my family and I recommend it!!
