It's the best in New Castle, period. I do like other places for ice cream itself, for example I think the creamery in Penn State is the best Ice cream. But if i had to pick anything at all, it would be Forbush.
I grew up in New Castle and the highlight of many a summer evening or Sunday drive was a stop at Forbush's. Best frozen custard I ever had, I can't believe anyone would compare this to DQ. Personally, black cherry was my favorite.
I am almost 42 yrs old, and I have been going there since I was about 3 yrs old. Their ice ream is thee best I have EVER ate.My favorite is , of course, black raspberry, but as a child it was orange sherbet. I have a funny story that stays in my mind...when I was about 6~7 yrs. old, me and my mom always walked there, and it was a hot day day and she said c'mon Dee, I was so excited to go, and we went walking down the road. We got there and I ordered my orange sherbert cone and we crossed the street and got right in front of the house that always had the Christmas tree lit up, and PLOP!!!! my perfectly round scoop of ice cream was in the gravel, well, needless to say, I started to scream! Yes, scream, not cry, and everyone in line at Forbush's was all looking. My mother was so mad and embarrassed by the way I acted, but she knew, even at that age, she better take me back or it was going to a not so pretty scene. LoL We went over and I got my cone, and we went home and I didn't say a word the whole way home! I think at 41, if my ice cream fell in the gravel from Forbush's,I would still scream......DARN GOOD STUFF!
