We eat out about 5 nights a week and have had a variety of dining and services experience but this managed to be the worst one ever. We enjoy taking our time dining but this was so bad I almost wondered whether we were on some hidden camera. Our original reservation was for 8:30 but we were running early and called the restaurant to let them know we'd be there at 7:30. They said that was fine. We were seated just about 7:30. At 7;35 they took our drink order -- 2 cocktails plus wine - we asked them to bring the wine with the cocktails. At about 7:55 our drinks came and we gave our dinner order. We finished them about 8:10 and asked for the wine, which came about 8:25. We inquired about our appetizers and were told "they should be here by now." We agreed. At 8:40 still no appetizers so we asked to see a manager. At 8:45, no manager, no appetizers but the people seated behind us who came in after us got their entrees (having finished their appetizer). We too were finished and asked for the check. The waitress said our appetizers were here. We said we lost our appetite. The waitress apologized (still no manager) and said she would buy our wine (we only had time to finish about 1/2 of each of our glasses). We left $60 to cover the 2 drinks and 1/2 glass of wine each and left. This got the manager's attention who ran after us -- not to apologize or to try to make things right but to demand payment. We told her the waiitress was buying our wine (plenty for her to take home) and that we left $60 for 2 drinks. She questioned whether we were being honest. I gave her my business card and told her to contact me if she thought we owed her anything. We did not hear back. No apology, no nothing. No problem -we'll never be back and encourage others to avoid this place..

Wow, one of the best restaurant I ever had. And simply the best in Augusta. The Kangaroo staket and smoked ostrich meat are good. The desserts are phenomenal. Chocolate Chili is so unique that it's invented right in the restaurant by the chef.

La Maison is our favorite place to eat dinner or celebrate any special occasion. We travel over 50 miles to enjoy their cuisine as often as possible. The tapas bar has an extensive menu. The wine selection is endless. Chef Heinz and Zelda are just delightful. For a culinary experience, you must attend one of their monthly wine pairing dinners. Chef Heinz is very passionate about his food and gets such joy at sharing it with others. Just love this place!!

I love this place! Chef Heinz is so personable and attentive! The food and wine pairing events are tops for this area - definitely worth checking out!! Not at all stuffy (as was described to me)! You can order a multiple course meal if you so choose, but the regular menu and tapas selection are amazing too! According to the regulars, most people come for special occassions, but the wine bar makes for a great conversational relaxed atmosphere. I will definitely be a regular here in the future!

I Just Love This Place!!
By Billie, 7/18/07
Its beautiful, cozy, warm and inviting. The owners have put every imaginable thought into details...lovely bar, great martini, Chef Heinz creates some of the most tantalizing appetisers while you slip into one of the sofa's, enjoy a drink and relax. His wife Zelda makes you feel right at home. From the moment I walked in years ago, I felt it was like home...and aside from the fact its one of Augusta's finest (if not THE finest), I have had drinks in the bar in shorts so dont let the fine dining setting make you feel its too 'uppity'...its just the best place I know to relax and enjoy a prolonged dining experience.

Romantic, Classy and affordable!
By Nicole, 3/2/07
A date took me to La Maison. I was absolutely charmed! Chef Heinz and the server were both extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They gave us samples of the wine so we could choose which bottle. Because it was late on a weeknight, we hung out in the wine bar "Veritas." We sat on a loveseat in front of the fireplace--the most romantic restaurant date ever! The food was fantastic, and a wonderful value. We ordered the plate of 12 mussels but definitely received more than that. Everythign was seasoned/ flavored perfectly. I can't really rave enough. I lived in New Orleans for 6 years and abroad for 2, so I know good restaurants. La Maison is fantasitc!

Simply the best

I can't wait for the next time I can eat here. It need not be as expensive as you may think. Try an appetizer and salad with a glass of wine. Then desert will still fit the bill. A great place for a celebration... great food in a lovely atmosphere.

From a local

This restaurant is a favorite of my wife and I. My wife is an Augustan native and has eaten at all of the fine dining establishments that this city has to offer and this restaurant is her favorite. We love it so much we had our wedding diner in a private room at La Maison. Every time we eat there we are amazed by the presentation, quality of the food and service, and taste of the food. It is a must go to place if you are looking for gourmet cuisine. Dr. Coates Medical College of Georgia Augusta, Georgia

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/4/06
I am a vegetarian and i asked that the chef prepare a special meal because they did not have a vegetarian selection of any kind. when the waitress brought it out it was just a plate of canned vegetables . it wasn't even presented well. i was dissapointed to say the least.

disappointing
By rubenora, 4/4/06
Went to dinner while in Augusta for the Masters. We were not told of the specials, and thoroughly did not enjoy the duck on the menu which was tasteless, tough and ordinary. Worst of all, we told the waiter, and no response from anybody. I guess they did not care. Definitely will not go back and cannot recommend. Dr. Raman Henry Ford Health System Detroit, Michigan
