Main Moon Chinese Restaurant, Rochester

I grew up near Main Moon's first location, have been a customer since they opened in the early 1990s and continue to stop by whenever I can now that I don't live in the area anymore. Like most Chinese places, people tend to either love or strongly dislike their style of cooking, but it is run by a fantastic family that knows how to treat their customers right, so I recommend trying them at least once and making your own judgment. They are primarily a take out establishment, so don't be fooled by the lack of atmosphere inside. I've been to Chinese restaurants all over New England and have found only one other place (in downtown Boston, no less) that rivals their General Tso's/Gau's chicken, and their fried rice and lo mein are, hands down, the best-tasting I've had anywhere.

This place was a favorite of mine since high school because you can get a meal (enough for two meals) for under $4. The rice is a little plain, the lo mein is pretty good, but the chicken fingers are fantastic. Definitely recommend take out though, the restaurant isn't very comfortable.

I grew up in Philadelphia and always frequently visited Chinatown as a child with my family. As most families, we'd have our favorite restaurant or two and wouldn't stray away from those very frequently. Well a few years ago I moved up to Rochester, NH to attend school, and let me tell you it took me a very long time (about a year) to discover this little gem. Lui's Garden, the Dynasty, -- ugh... the quality of the food is pathetic. However, I have to say that Main Moon is of the very best quality and is authentic Chinese-American cuisine. Not only are they very friendly, but I believe they are family-owned and operated which leaves for a great experience. Their menu items are delicious (especially the M3), and their lunchtime buffet has a great selection that filled me up. If anyone is looking for great Chinese-American food in the Rochester, NH area, please give this place a try first.

food is great! Atmosphere is a little blah...but the chicken fingers and general saos makes up for it. ps there is a guy that is always in there that kinda looks like James Dean. I think he might be gay tho!

Not good. I have eaten there twice and both times I felt awful after.

I have been to a lot of local Chinese Restaurants and in Chinatown/Boston and Main Moon is right up there. What they lack in atmosphere they more than make up in authentic Chinese food. They will cook to your liking ( hot, spicy, dark or light rice/sauce, extra this or that or even add.) Prices are very reasonable and portions are plentiful.

They don't skimp on food, you can get meals for like $3-4, but its chinese mall food quality.

I went to this place when they first opened, and I have to tell you, it was the WORST chinese food I have ever had in my life, and I eat chinese at least once a month... I would NOT RECOMMEND this place to anyone!!!

I have eaten at all the chinese places in Rochester and Dover and Main moon is the best!They have the best food and the best price.The chicken wings are to die for and the fried shrimp are awesome!There fried rice is always great.The best thing is you get more for your money!
