Carey Hilliard's Restaurants, Savannah

I am from texas were if you asked about a carey hilliards people would look at you like you were crazy. i worked at carey hilliards for a few weeks at the one on skidaway. The experience was rewarding. It was a great place to be. I never worried about having trouble with anyone else i worked with. Everyone was very pleasent to see everyday. I now work at olive garden in macon ga and i really wish it was more like carey hilliards. most days i leave work feeling worst than i did when i walked in the door. They should really think about building one here in macon. I would be so happy.

I am shocked by what I have read on this site about Hilliards. This is a really good restaurant in Savannah that I have ate at many times. I recently saw where they will soon have one in Statesboro Ga and I am excited to know we can now have it more often as I live in Bulloch county now. My husband and I especially enjoy their seafood dishes. we look forward to the opening in our area.

Best, and leanest bbq I've had EVER. The sauce is the best ever, good thing they sell it by the bottle.!

Ya'll do NOT want to eat at Hilliard's. I worked there. The managers have problems, there are bugs, NO ONE washes their hands, and NONE of the food is fresh. They ACTUALLY took the butter off of someone else's DIRTY plate and put it on another customers. The managers there let you know that you are replaceable. Higgens at Skidaway is a TOTAL dick, and there is an old nasty server there with fried blonde hair that WILL cop an attitude with you. They actually had to fight over silverware in the server stations because one server was stealing it all! They leave the dressings out and the DO. NOT. THROW. ANYTHING. AWAY

I can't complain.... I ate at the abercorn location with my daughter today. We thought it was pretty decent. The service was very good, and the food was hot. It was no Copelands, but pretty nice for the price. We had caesar salads(good), onion rings(VERY good), hot wings(good but too spicy for me), and a seafood platter with stuffed crab(decent by kind of dried out), fried scallaps(good), hushpuppies(good), shrimp(good but not the batter shown on online menu, more like Captain d's), oysters(good), hushpuppies(good while hot), and boiled shrimp(ok, a bit overcooked), All of this with drinks $40. Like I said, decent for the money.

Ate at the Southside location on Abercorn. Worst experience ever! I am not kidding at all when I say there was a dead roach IN my sweet tea. I have eaten at Carey Hilliards over 100 times easily in the 32 years in Savannah and I do like it most times but over the years the prices have gone up and the portions and quality have gone down , way down! I did approach the manager about the roach and she offered me the explanation that they had just had pest control in the day before and the roach must have crawled into the tea urn and died and sweet tea was made the morning I ate there and was still inside. She did not make us pay for anything except the wine we had consumed. The Skidaway location has also been a bad experience the last 2 times I dined there. I will not be returning after 32 years of being a Carey Hilliards customer.

Moving to North Carolina several years ago was a culture shock. No Carey Hilliards! No fresh fried or boiled shrimp! I love Carey Hilliard's Barbeque and there was nothing similar here. I still have relatives in Savannah so every time I'm down there I buy a case of Carey's sauce. It's great on those really thick ribs (the boneless ones) after you cook them in the crock pot. Yes, the crock pot. About 30 minutes before you remove the ribs, pour on the Carey sauce. Ummmmm. Gooood!
