I find it absolutely impossible to say anything negative about Chomp. I only wish they would bring back their all you can eat Sunday Brunch. I miss it so. I have never tasted anything but exceptional food at this fine establishment. As for the atmoshpere and staff...lighthearted fun is the theme. I always feel great when I leave and look forward to coming back for more. So, on that note, see you again soon.
For all the people talking bad about Chomp, they are crazy. Chomp is awesome! I have been going there for years, and disagree with all the negative things said about this place.
If you are looking for a fun place to go with fresh sushi, this is the place. The teppan grill is super fun and the food is always delicious! Everytime I have been there, the bartenders are a blast! They are always fun and make great drinks, one of my favorite drinks is the Shark Attack!
* * I highly recommend chomp :) * *
definitely not a kid friendly place
me and my family saw the show and omg the chef that was cooking the food was drinking budweiser while he was cooking
some of the food was under cooked
he made my niece who is 4 cry 3 times
yeah the show was good and so was the service
but he was a terrible chef and that killed everything
and if we didn't do exactly what he told us to do he got mad at us
worst place i have ever eatten at
All of these reviews that are so negitive couldnt be more wrong. I LOVE CHOMP! The people are so friendly and the prices are about the same as most places in downtown Fullerton. Im taking my girlfriend there tomorrow for her birthday and we love the crunchy shrimp rolls and the spicy tuna roll!!! Yum!!! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
Please dont knock CHOMP till you try it!!!!
I went to Chomps for lunch today and the mixed reviews are correct. The Service is terrible, the food is expensive, but the sushi tastes very good. My friend and i waited for the host/server to seat us while she sat by an empty bar with another employee leaning and chatting (aka ignoring us). When we were finally sat she got us water and disappeared back to the bar. We received almost no service. We had to ask a busser for our check because we had been waiting for so long.
The rolls were 12 and 13 dollars, quite delicious but not very big. Other restaurants ive visited recently have similar sushi rolls for about 7-10$ and were larger.
I went to chomps last night 1/26/09. It was by far the WORST service I had ever experienced. I went for a bday dinner with a party of 10 and I wish I would've talked to the manager about taking off the automatic gratuity. It took the server 10 minutes before she even acknowledge us and another 15 minutes to take our orders. It was a Monday night and it was not crowded. I would have rather paid the busboys for paying more attention and refilling our drinks and serving us. I am a really patient person because I use to waitress, but man, it was outrageous, and she pulled a $60 tip off our table and she forgot to bring out some items that we ordered, and we were charged!!! It outrageous. I've gone to Chomps a numerous amount of time and last night will be my very last night there. Dennys would've offered better service!
I've never really enjoyed Teppan Grills. It always seemed to me like flamenco dancing with spatulas -- a bunch of slamming and stomping for dramatic purposes when all they're really doing is cutting up someone's food. However, the Teppan Chefs here really put some pyrotechnics into their performances, and, since some of the grills are close to the sushi bar, have been known to involve sushi patrons as well, tossing tidbits of chicken or rice their way. If you like going to the Teppan Grill, you'll have fun.
That said, I have only visited Chomp for the Sushi Bar, and enjoyed it immensely when it first opened. Since then, it's been hit and miss. I will still come here for the Typhoon Tuna Salad. And the Tornado Roll is the next level up from the standard Crunchy Roll that you'll get at other sushi bars. I did try their Fitness Roll this last time -- it probably would have been great without the sweet wasabi sauce, which reminded me too much of ranch dressing to enjoy the rest of the roll.
When you go to a Sushi Bar, however, you tend to be concerned about smell as well as flavor of the fish. Chomp didn't smell fishy this past Saturday (I will walk out of a fishy-smelling sushi bar, and so should you), but it smelled moist and moldy, as though the entire area had been given a poor sponge bath. There were gnats at the counter. I didn't see any in the food preparation area, another reason for a hasty departure, but both the odor and the bugs will cause me great consideration before returning. As I remember this smell even today, I find myself considering Todai more preferable to Chomp.
I hope that more consideration towards the appearance of cleanliness is given, cause I will definitely miss the Typhoon Tuna Salad and Tornado Roll.
i work here and its great, but if any of you give the servers any crap we spit in your food. we dont care and management does not care either. so tip well you your food will have a little extra for you.
