The 2nd Street Bistro opened its doors in the Historic Murray Hotel in the heart of downtown Livingston in the spring of 2004. The Bistro is rooted simply in the belief that great food and wine make life more pleasurable. We are committed to providing locally sourced cuisine and wonderful wines at great prices.
I had heard how great 2nd Street Bistro was, so decided to check it out. I went during happy hour (5-6pm) where appetizers and a few cocktails are half price. I started out with a cocktail called the Pink Tulip, which was raspberry flavored vodka, lemon juice, and lemonade. I found it to be very bitter, so I was disappointed with it. For an apptizer I ordered the fried okra. I couldn't resist getting okra because it is so hard to find in Montana. I liked it- it had a nice crunch to it, but could have used more seasoning in the batter. For dinner I ordered the meatloaf and mashed potatoes for $18. The meatloaf is homemade from veal, pork, and beef, and the flavors worked really well together. It was the best meatloaf I have had in a very long time. The mashed potoates were creamy, yet chunky, and had a nice flavor. The portions were just right, and the plate had eye appeal.Service was okay- it took awhile for the bartender to notice me, but once he did everything went well. Overall I really enjoyed everything. My only complaint were the prices. But, you get what you pay for, and this was quality food.
We tried the 2nd Street Bistro on our way through Livingston last summer. This place was rockin'! They had a couple steaks, as you would expect in Montana, but also some other great treats like local pork and lamb, and great fish specials.
The wine list was an unexpected treat, found some things we can't even find back home.
Only complaint was that it was a little noisy, but it was busy, what can you say.
