We had a truly terrible experience with this restaurant. We were yelled at by the manager and treated with such unbelievable rudeness I still can t quite believe it happened. We tried to plan a family birthday celebration here not once, not twice, but three weekends in a row. Each and every time our reservation was changed at the last minute and the management staff refused to accommodate a simple, reasonable seating request to allow for special needs of one of our family members. We made our reservations (all three) several days in advance and were bumped each time. The only explanation we were offered was that a larger party had called to make a reservation after us and the management chose to accommodate them ahead of our party. There was clearly no thought given to the inconvenience this caused us. We were understanding the first time this happened, as we were asking for some small special consideration. The second time we were frustrated, but agreed to return as we had had positive experiences here in the past and we were told there would be no further issues. However, when this became a pattern and it was clear that the management staff clearly had no empathy for our situation, we were appalled by the rude and even hostile manner in which we were treated. We could hardly believe it when we were told yet again that our reservation request would not be honored despite the fact we had made the reservation more than a week in advance and called to verify the it the day before. It is clear the management staff at this establishment do not care about their customers. We will be contacting the company s corporate headquarters to inform them of how poorly their franchise is being represented in Memphis.
I love the food at the Melting Pot more than words can describe -- it's my sister & mine's favorite place to eat, & we dine at the Memphis location all the time, even if just to grab a more abbreviated dinner of cheese, salad, and chocolate. My sister loves the Spinach Artichoke cheese fondue the best; my personal favorite is the Wisconsin Trio -- great if you love blue cheese. We both love the California salad, and you seriously can't pick a bad chocolate off the menu -- they are all truly fantastic. I've read that some people have had less than desirable service at the restaurant before, but our dining experience has always been terrific, and I could not recommend this restaurant more highly. The two of us like to take advantage of the yummy $6 girlie martinis on their Girls' Night Out menu, but the restaurant as a whole seems to be particularly catered to romantic dining experiences, so we've both been plotting to recruit our respective boyfriends to bring us out for the 4-course fancy dinner as soon as we get the opportunity :)
I was at Melting Pot last Sunday, and have been going there off and on for years. One thing that has changed is that the service has become worse over time. There were just two of us and the restaurant was not particularly busy, and yet we rarely saw our waiter. The dirty and empty dishes sat on our table for a ridiculously long time (more than 20 minutes) before they were cleared away. As we drove away, we saw some of the wait staff outside watching a firework display. I realize that they are entitled to breaks, but something tells me that those breaks were longer than company policy. Be that as it may, for those prices, I look for service that is well above par.
The last time we were there a couple of months ago, the service was slow then, although the restaurant was busier.
I used to love Melting Pot, but now I have no plans to return.
My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary. The service was amazing and the food was delicious. We told them it was our anniversary and they sat us at a very romantic table away from everyone else and even put a candle in our dessert and wished us a happy anniversary. The overall experience was fantastic.
This is absolutely my favorite restaurant in Memphis, and has been since the first time I went. I was skeptical that first time, I will admit. A restaurant where you have to cook your own food? Little did I know!
I have NEVER had anything bad there. Service is *usually* exceptional, but like anyplace, they're not perfect. I've only had truly bad service one time (and I've been there at least a dozen times). In general, the staff is very knowledgeable and very friendly.
The private, 2-seat tables in the corners are PERFECT for romantic dinners.
The desserts are to DIE for.
I prefer the Court Bouillion cooking style; I think it lets you savor the natural flavor of the foods better.
They've gotten rid of my all-time favorite dipping sauce, Thai Peanut, but they still have plenty of great sauces left.
The seasonal/special dinners are always very good, too.
You really just can't lose when you go here.
(And I don't think it's too pricey at all. The Big Night Out is a GREAT deal, and you can find coupons in Clipper magazine from time to time. Definitely worth every penny. And their corkage fee is only $10 if you bring your own wine!)
Something about good company and great food. The Melting Pot is consistantly fabulous. A bit pricey, especially if you get the four courses, but worth every penny. I would love to go to this place and just get the chocolate fondue but I cant because the other three courses are just as great. I wish I could take the left over melted chocolate homej!1
