Pegasus Restaurant & Taverna
This colorful taverna in Greektown is well worth the short trek from downtown. The menu mixes standard Greek fare, including a flaming Saganaki cheese appetizer and traditional lamb and chicken dishes, with more interesting offerings like pan-fried squid. The seafood selection is extensive and ranges from sea bass and salmon to scallops and swordfish. Family style dining is also an option. In addition, the wine list is reasonable. In the warmer months, a rooftop garden with a splendid view of the Chicago skyline is open for drinks and appetizers.
I LOVE this restaurant! I try to visit at least twice a month, just to say hello to all the friendly staff. Food is by far, the best in Greek Town, and in the summer, they have a beautiful roof top with Chicago skyline- When I go, I sit at the bar and talk to everyone for a few hours over cocktails and dinner. I have also brought numerous friends there and they all love it!
The food at this restaurant is awful. I brought a guest to Pegasus because I had heard such great things about it. We waited for an hour and a half, were ignored by the wait staff, and when when we finally got seated and ordered our food, it came an hour later and was cold.
For the price and the service this isn't a deal, go to another of the many Greek restaurants on Halsted.
Pegasus was my favorite Greek restaurant in Chicago. However, after taking my family there, one of the senior staff/manager was very disrespectful and rude to our family after my infant son got a little fussy. He yelled at us for bringing our children there, yet they supplied their restaurant with numerous high chairs. The only people that heard my son were the ones near us, and it was brief. However, everyone in our section of the restaurant heard the the manager yelling at me for bringing a child into his restaurant and were horrified when that ignorant person literally attacked us. We walked out, never to return again.
If you have a family, do not bring them there as they are obviously not welcome.
Fortunately, due to their imcompetence, we found a better restaurant down the street called Greek Islands, which has better food, service, and pricing.
We're going here (again!) for my birthday party this weeknd!! It's my favorite restaurant - not just in Greektown but overall: the food is consistently **scrumptious** - we've NEVER had a 'bad' meal (over/undercooked, wrong food, etc.) The waiters/staff are attentive, polite and very knowledgeable about the wide variety of tampting dishes on the menu. The prices are very reasonable, especialy for the large portions. If you leave here hungry, 'it's your own fault'!;~)
(Word to the wise: MAKE RESERVATIONS if you go on a weekend! It IS a popular place (for good reason) and you could have a long wait. That said, we've gotten in pretty quickly during the week, but weekends are another matter.)
If I could, I'd give it *10* stars!!
The first time I went there, it was very nice the atmosphere. If you get a table next to the windows you will see the beautiful sky line of Down Town Chicago. Also in the restaurant they have statues that remind you of those in the ruins of Athens, paintings on the walls of the sunny Greece, just a great decor. The food, well that is indescribable, they make food that seems like ecstasy when eaten. My favorite is a soup, with lemon, rice and chicken, but I cannot write, never mind spell the name. During the warm summer days, they have a garden on top of the restaurant, where you can eat as well as have a drink with your friends. OVERALL GREAT EXPERIENCE.
