Primo Patio Cafe

Description

The small, unassuming facade of this cafe is very deceiving; as you head inside and walk towards the back you'll discover a large, charming back patio that is perfect on sunny days. Forest-dwelling fish decorate the mural on the patio and that is an excellent indicator of the whimsy and fun to be found at Primo Patio Cafe, popular with students, professionals and pretty much everyone else in the city. The cuisine is Caribbean with a dash of Pacific Rim and while the breakfasts are good, it is the lunch that draws. You'll find great jerk chicken, hot and sweet beef, chicken and pork barbecue all brought to you by a friendly wait staff. Specialty drinks include pitchers of sangria, the potent mojito, as well as Buli Buli , a concoction of Cuban beer, lime juice, sugar and ice.

The food is almost always overcooked, the jerk chicken was fatty chewy and over seasoned. The only reason this place is still open is location and cheap prices. When you walk by the kitchen on the way to your table you can clearly see the less than clean working conditions. I gave this place three chances and each meal was worse than the last.

Primos is really good

Very unique, tasty dishes. The owner (who you can tell really cares about the quality of the food) is on the ball. I wish there was one in Russian Hill. It is close to work for me so I get there at least once a week. Great value as well.

not my type of food...
By ,
Primo patio has the advantage to be located very close to the AT&T park and to serve food on a nice patio. However, I was not a big fan of the food.

Amazing food - and bargain prices to boot!
By ,
This little gem is tucked on a back patio off Townsend St about a block from PacBell park. We go there every time we go to a Giants game - the food is ten times better and MUCH less expensive than ballpark fare. The Jerk Chicken is their signature dish, and it is really amazing. Hosts Chris and Noel are really friendly folk and will try to accomodate just about any request. I love the caribbean music too.

Friendly neighorhood joint

Modestly priced menu and friendly service. Both the jerk chicken and upside-down chicken are awesome. Definitely would like to try one of their fish dishes one of these days. The patio seating would be ideal for one of those sunny afternoons in soma.

One word...GLORIOUS

I have one word to describe my experience at this restaurant....GLORIOUS. If you love to eat, come with a healthy appetite. The food portions are large so go with a group and try different things for a fun dining experience.

Delicioso!
By ,
This small pleasurable place makes you feel as if you were in the Carribean. The food is fantastic with carribean spices and flavors. The owner is always friendly and smiling. The staff is small and friendly as well. However, during peak hours you may have to wait a little longer than planned so be prepared.
