Jardiniere, opened in 1997, is housed in a beautiful landmark building in San Francisco's chic Hayes Valley neighborhood. Highlights of the elegant setting, designed by Pat Kuleto, include a gorgeous bar and stunning staircase. The highly refined and sensual food of Chef/Owner Traci Des Jardins is a celebration of Northern California's best seasonal bounty prepared with classic French technique. The J Lounge features a full list of specialty cocktails and wines, and offers a variety of creative lounge food and small plates. Its proximity to the theaters makes it an excellent place to dine before or after a show.
Not a casual dining experience, but extremely delicious and wonderful food. I loved ordering the tasting menu paired with wines! It was very extravegant and luxurious, but not at all too filling or ill prepared. The service there is very gratious and attentive. A+!
Recently dined 10/20 and was greatly disappointed with service, environment (entire party freezing from constant air conditioning down draft after asking for relief four times) and sub-standard meal for high dollar cost. Two of us ordered swordfish which was dry and little to no flavor. Fried potatoe wedges were so-so, nothing spectacular. Our service was......practically none. Little attention to details, little interaction as evening went on. Anything needed/desired, a server had to be located and asked for item. Not overly impressed, will not return. Decor sweet and very nice!
All you need to know is that this place has average food for spectacular prices. The duck confit salad was great, but the rest of the appetizers, entrees and desserts that my friends and me had were ok at best. Fatty, chewy short ribs - blech. But the kicker - a $50 steak that was a 1/2 notch better than what I grill at home. Egregious - they have a lot of nerve to have that on the menu.
