Bug-A-Boo-Bay, Alexandria

First of let me say that I think that Bugaboo has a very cool and unique setting, that is pretty impressive and a nice change for this area, that being said; I really wish that I recommend this place when I have guest in from out of town. Several years ago it was one of my favorite places to eat, but things have changed. The service is aweful and the food is certainly not remarkable. Last Sunday, I thought I would give it another shot after having poor service last month, it was worse, Waited 40 minutes for a salad, never had a drink refill and main course didn't arrive for over an hour, I realized it was't the servers fault that the food was so slow so I still tipped quite well, but must say that I probably won't be going back anytime soon. I would understand if was overly busy, but it wasn't. While I was sitting and waiting, a table of customers, just got up and walked out shaking their heads after waiting and never receiving an appetizer after 35 minutes. I really hope they can turn this around because I like having options for dining.

I love this place! When I travel for business I make it a point to visit this each time. You won't be disappointed. Great food. Large portions. Fantastic quality. Waitresses good. You can't go wrong here..

Too overpriced on their items and even though alot of people are sad to see it go. It is a blessing in disguise. I hope that someone else buys it and turns it into something wonderful. Prime location just bad ownership. They jumped in with both eyes shut.

As an area resident and retired chef, I have visited this establishment quite a few times to try different foods, drinks, atmosphere, and other aspects of the place. Overall I have been quite disappointed with the food. On average it usually takes a long time for the food order to be completed and almost every time I have been there, some mistake in respect to my food order has happened. In addition, a couple of times my food came out cold or luke warm (not appetizing if you order sea food!!!). On the other hand the place is very unique with its interior design and provides a great atmosphere. The bar area is very neat and is almost completely separated from the dining area (a plus if you are bringing younger children). There is also an outside eating area, which during the summer, is a great place to hang out and relax. The service here isn't the greatest. It is often times very slow and even at sometimes rude. However, I personally do believe it is proper to leave a fair tip. Overall it is a good place to go with friends to have some drinks, but not recommended for a dinner party. The food is very expensive considering the quality. (Keep in mind that you are more or less paying for the atmosphere-not the quality of food). I would recommend that if you have not been here, to at least go and try it out (everyone has different opinions on what is good and what is not). From a chef's stand point however, I believe that they could greatly improve on quality.

I've been here a few times, but it seems like the quality of service is declining. The food is pretty good, the atmosphere was great, but our server was very rude. She wasn't happy to be there, and she certainly wasn't about to refill my water, and refused to get me the correct salad dressing I ordered. When it came to pay the bill, she was sweet, then after paying, cold as ice again. I tipped her well anyway. The food is fairly expensive, not quite worth it, but you're also paying for the neat atmosphere.
