The Amazing Grace Bakery and Cafe
When the bakery opened in June 1995, we wanted to create a simple place. A place for all people to come and feel welcome, a place to share stories, share music, share dreams, a place to rest and smell bread and cookies, a place to laugh, cry and hope, a place to bring a new born baby, a place to bring aging parents and know they will be treated with kindness. What better way to share this Amazing but simple place.
We loved the relaxing atmosphere and the great muffins. My hot chocolate with all that whipped cream was the BEST!!! My husband thought the coffee was wonderful. This was a welcome stop on a great day in Duluth!
Just a few step down the stairs alongside the Dewitt-Seitz building takes you to the local coffeeshop with the most coffeeshop-feel it can have. A relaxing, cozy atmosphere with local preformances always attracts interesting people. So when you're taking a walk on the boardwalk or attending an attraction at the DECC, take a sidetrip over to Amazing Grace Cafe in the Dewitt Seitz Center.
A few words from a chef concerning the likes of THE Amazing Grace. Good coffee. Average, unseasoned food. Unacceptable breakfast wait times (over 40 un-exaggerated minutes). Subway quality sandwiches on slightly better bread (?). Run of the mill soups (bland) and salads. VERY slow and clueless front of house staff. From what I gathered, very poor and unconcerned management. Will not return. IF YOU CAN'T DO BREAKFAST RIGHT, THEN DON'T BOTHER WITH IT AT ALL. Also, management treats every one of their employees like expendable pieces of crap. Had a friend who asked off for a saturday two weeks in advance for something very important. They scheduled her anyways when there were three people available to work instead. She tried to call every single employee who had off that day and see if they would cover for her. No luck. Fired without an ounce of effort in fixing the situation on the management end. Pretty sad if you ask me.
loved the outdoor patio, my husband loved the espresso, we enjoyed the muffins, desserts, and sanwiches. The lasagna was nothing special...however, the bakery and coffee shop portion is really good. Service is slow usually because it's so popular, and the cash register area is very small, so you wait. If you are not in a rush, this is a great place to relax and watch the world go by.
It's a basement, not a carpeted family room. The people are nice and the coffee is good . The tables outside face the canal and are a great place to chat and people watch. A good place to go as A tourist in your own town. The crowd their is a mix of creative people and students. I enjoyed it and would recomend it for those on a budget.
