I got the chance to visit Grand Marais over Thanksgiving weekend, we ate here almost exclusively. Let me tell you, delicious, comforting home cooking and really wonderful innovative flavor combos are there IN ABUNDANCE. Delicious home-cooked breakfast -- sausage, omelettes, bacon--as well as great sandwiches, BBQ Ribs, turkey and mashed potatoes, pies of every combination imaginable - apple, pumpkin, pumpkin praline, pecan, old-fashioned mince, fruits and creams and custards. Troy (reviewer above) is right--the Maple Sausage is swoon-worthy. On top of that, it s the most gorgeous spot--we sat and watched the sun set over the harbor. GO. You will not be disappointed. :)

Didn't have any pie there, but the food we had for dinner one night, and then the breakfast the next day were AMAZING! We sat outside, so the view of the harbor was just beautiful.

If you are looking for a great home made breakfast this is by far the best I've ever had. And the special Maple Sausage is to die for.

Familar with the north shore and great food along the way. Had never stopped at The Pie Place. Unfortunately, we had a long wait, no real kids menu to speak of and pricey. Food was O.K. Portions small. They ran out of simple items like yellow mustard and hamburger buns (my pricey burger had to be served on plain wheat bread). I'm sure they are better known for their pies perhaps? Our bill was over $40 for lunch (2 adults, 2 kids). Not going back.

It doesn't look like much from the outside but they have the BEST pies I have ever had. I'm not sure about the rest of their menu but the pies have never let me down!

Definately making this an annual stop

My husband and I had never been to Grand Marais before our honeymoon this past October. We had great service to start with and when we asked if there was anyway to get a dinner meal at lunch time they were quick to accomidate us. We had delicious Chicken Pot Pie. The pastry was light and flaky and the filling was just right. We both loved it. We told them we were on our honeymoon and they took excellent care of us. After lunch we somehow still found room for dessert and tried the Banana Cream Pie. WOW!!! It was absolutely delicious. We were just passing through going further up north, but we stopped back for another piece of pie on our way home. The pie crust was absolutely perfect. It was light and flaky and the banana cream filling melted in your mouth. The whip cream tasted fresh and home made with the perfect amount of vanilla. Fresh bananas were used not just banana flavoring. I have been making one Banana Pie a week just about, trying to find one I can make for us at home but none have turned out nearly as good as the one at the Pie Place. We absolutely would recommend this place to anyone wanting a great meal and not caring where you are getting it (the ambiance is just ok, but it was still cozy). Lastly, it is pretty inexpensive especially when you consider what culinary delights you are getting. It is excellent home cooking with a unique menu (i.e. Sweet Potatoe soup, Chicken Pot Pie) that changes weekly. Bon Appetite!!
