Mayslack's Bar & Grill
Locally renowned for its Original, an obscene portion of roast beast garnished with peppers and slapped on a bun, Mayslack's has been a NE Minneapolis institution since 1955. Hipsters and oldsters a like belly up to the bar for a wide range of cocktails and beer, including Minnesota favorite Grain Belt's new Nordeast, a brew named for the neighborhood. Dim lighting and high-backed booths allow for lying low, and live bands Thursday through Saturday nights provide permission to groove in one of the Twin Cities premier night clubs.
Horrible! This place is floating obviously on it s old, outdated, years ago reputation. The roast beef is overcooked, dry and tasteless and sits hideously piled on a dry rye bun with white onion and banana peppers. Tasteless au jus sits on the side. The place is dirty, unbelievably loud and waitress was brisk and rude. Basic MN bar food but not even good bar food. Reminds me of a roach coach sandwich at a dirt bike competition. Don t bother!
Im looking forward to re-visiting in September (2009) when I revisit the Twin Cities. I haven't been there since about 1970 when I and some co-workers used to go there for lunch. I remember Stan Mayslack standing there and carving up the big roasts and piling it on a bun, dipping the top of the bun into the juice and handing it to us.
Great memories .... but then I'm sure that things are not quite the same as nothing is anymore. Its too bad
Went to Mayslack's on Friday night to hear The Root City Band. Found a seat, enjoyed the music, comfortable setting, excellent service. The wait staff was very attentive. I'll for sure be going back to try the meat and enjoy more music.
This noisy, crowded place has been popular with the hip, artsy crowd since the early 1980s, but do not be
intimidated. Everyone can enjoy the great food, friendly service and pleasant surroundings. Come for the spectacular fire roasted pizza, ...
