a Fairbanks standout
The funny thing is not just how many Thai restaurants there are in Fairbanks (a lot!), but the fact that amongst virtually all the restaurants in Fairbanks, every one of the Thai restaurants stand out in terms of service. They all have great food, and I think represent a couple of the different regional Thai cuisines (and the feel of the restaurant), too. But amongst the standouts, Lemon Grass has repeatedly been my favorite, and I think it is the atmosphere they create, but the food does seem to be a notch above, too. It isn't just the brass flatware, the fish-shaped dishes, or even the hardwood chopsticks, but these are amongst the many, many little details that are given attention that come together to make Lemon Grass memorable. If you have a favorite Thai dish, use it as your test; if you are afraid of new things, cashew chicken is good even on the most timid of palates; if you are brave, then get larb (a sort of meat "salad" -- and a love-it-or-hate-it dish -- obviously I love it).
