Gwennie's Old Alaskan Restaurant
A real Alaskan experience, this restaurant has scads of memorabilia on its walls and in displays. President Carter and the first lady once ate here while passing through Anchorage. Down-to-earth, friendly Alaskans - who are happy to share what they know of Alaska - operate this restaurant. Meals are served all day, and you may expect large Alaskan portions. Have your omelet with reindeer sausage, or a grilled halibut sandwich for lunch. Dinner options include barbecued salmon, and wine and beer is available.
What is not to like? It's old time Spenard. The food is wonderful, the service is good. This is the Real Alaska.
Addressing a previous critic ... If the sanitation isn't always 100%, and this bothers your sensibilities, don't go there. You can always find a plastic chain restaurant somewhere that is very clean, superficially, anyhow, and very boring.
Great food, great ambiance, and best value for fresh seafood in the state! It was easy to find, and the staff was very helpful in reccomending what to have. I had a complete fresh Salmon dinner for under $20.
I ate at Gwennies frequently during the summer of 2001. The food is good and plentiful, the staff friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere very relaxing. Very good value for the money. You won't be disappointed.
I have eaten here about 3 times. The portions are large. More food than you want so you end up wasting a lot which I didn't care for. The coffee was awful. The service was hit or miss but the staff was mostly friendly. We don't eat there anymore because it just isn't that great. If you want a good breakfast in midtown, try City Dinner on Minnesota. IHOP b Lowes on Tudor, I know its a chain but the coffee is good and the food is too.
I grew up in Ak and spent a lot of time eating a Gwennies. Don't listen to the whiners on here complaining about how their bacon wasn't perfect;) Why would you be so boring as to order freaking bacon you can get at McDonalds when you could order the Reindeer sausage omelette? Get real, eat like an Alaskan and love it! Thank you Gwennies for being there all these years! I know you don't serve Starbucks but we can deal with that too;) I'll be back soon with my family!
Walnut paneling and copper piping are present throughout the two floors and the effect is warm, classy and polished. The
top floor also has a wonderful sun deck for the summer days; it offers a view of the Alaska ...

Since 1972, this is where everyone comes when they want a real Mexican meal. Unbelievably delicious Chile Rellenos ($14.95) and
Nopales con Huevo made with cooked cactus in scrambled eggs ($14.95) are just two of the entrees served here. ...
