Snow Goose Restaurant & Sleeping Lady Brewery
Walnut paneling and copper piping are present throughout the two floors and the effect is warm, classy and polished. The top floor also has a wonderful sun deck for the summer days; it offers a view of the Alaska Range. Try its coconut prawns (dipped in an ale batter and served with a sweet and sour sauce) they're a favorite from its list of appetizers. Preferred entrees include the blackened halibut caesar salad and the wild mushroom fettuccini. The beer is exclusively made at this brewery.
Tried the bar/brewery on a hunch. Liked the view, and the service & beer was good. Dinner, however, left a lot to be desired. I'm not too picky with my tastes, but for slightly higher prices I would expect more. Side dishes were overcooked, with soft/soggy vegetables and bland potatoes. Main dish was also overprepared, with too much spice masking the flavor.
For the price, I would go elsewhere.
Without the great deck this place would have gone under years ago. The service is consistently horrible. How do they do it I don't know. The food is on par with the service. But even if you are skiping the food and just there to enjoy the view and a brew, don't plan on getting anything quickly.
We didn't eat here because we'd already eaten, but the beers (we sampled several) were fanatastic and all brewed there as I understood it. They apparently have $3 pints of a specific beer (it rotates), so what a deal if it's one you like! The service was fast and friendly. Can't wait to try dinner!
I had the blackened cod with a mango salsa, it was absolutely delicious! Their award-winning pale ale was one of the best I ever had. After we ate we checked out their play/comedy show and I'll tell you what! The performance of Brian and Alice were GREAT fun! They can SING, dance and tell great jokes, it was so much fun! All in all, for a first date event, it was a most enjoyable experience.
The Snow Goose is widely known by locals for it's beer and great balcony. Having one of the few outside seating areas in town, the view of Ship Creek Pt McKenzie and, on a clear day, 350 miles to Denali can be great. the food has improved with new chefs, but service can be a bit loose with on a busy sunny day. Snow Goose Brewery makes it's own beer and there's something here for hop-head.
