ORSO

Description

Alaskan, warm, inviting, innovative, a menu full of surprises, unbelievable wine list, great cocktails, are common phrases used by our guests to describe Orso. We feature the freshest ingredients available, Alaskan whenever possible- fresh Alaskan seafood, fresh local pasta, and local produce when in season. We prepare them with the simple, rustic flavors and techniques of the great culinary regions of the Mediterranean. Orso's outstanding service, bold menu, classic cocktails combined with a wine list that has received the "award of excellence" from the Wine Spectator for five years is why ORSO is the "Place to be" for Anchorage dinning.

Orso is a good restaurant, just not a true Italian one.

Combine Italian countryside cooking with creative chefs sourcing the freshest of Alaskan seafood: that's Orso, a perfect combination of tradition and new. Succulent, perfectly seasoned meats on beds of polenta with balsamic glazes compete for attention with fresh-caught wild fish crusted in cashews. Even the simpler dishes feature light, fresh cheeses and greens. Rich chocolates, excellent coffee, and good service finish the experience.

Orso is a sister restaurant of the Glacier Brew House. They both serve upscale menus. Orso has a really nice staff and nice atmosphere. What I do not like is the attempt to make some really good dishes more than they should be. I would like to enjoy the Filot Mignon, but it comes with nuts and a sauce that is terrible. Several other dishes are the same way. I would think that an Italian restaurant could have some really nice pasta meals without having to add some stupid artistic flare to the meal.

Fine Dining!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/29/09
We went on a date there and both ordered steak. It was the best we have had in Anchorage! We were in a hurry so we had to get our food to go, and they were helpful and quick to get us out the door. However expect to spend a pretty penny, a dinner for two will run you about $70 or more. Very good and worth it! Do not bring small children, it is a place to enjoy with the kids at home!

Very bad, very old fish. I could not wash it off for 2 days....and all I did was touch it. Server was non apologetic and we still had to pay. Save yourself indigestion and go next door to the Glacier Brewhouse.

Awful. Horrible. I don't know how they think they can get away with serving bad food. Maybe they thought we were cheap skates because we went there for lunch in our sweats but they served the most horrible sickening fish. We didn't do much more then poke at it with our fork but the stench stayed on our clothing and we had to wash them twice. The club sandwich was dry and tasted like they made it 2 days ago. The hummus and bread was good....service was good but they didn't take the uneaten fish off our bill. I will never, EVER, EVER go to that place again.

Anchorage

We ate lunch here while passing through Anchorage. The atmosphere was chic and the restaurant seemed trendy; it would have been at home in New York or Philadelphia. Prices were reasonable (as compared to those cities just mentioned) and there was a unique twist to all the dishes (different ingredients, etc.).
