We have been going to the Thai Orchid for over 10 years and have always been pleased with their food and service. Yesterday we stopped in for a late lunch at 2:15 PM. When we walked in we were greeted by a young woman who told us they had stopped seating and would reopen for dinner at 4:30 PM. Disappointed, we left, but as we walked out the door, we noticed the lunch hours posted on window stated that seating for lunch was until 2:30 PM. We thought perhaps she had misread the time so we went back and pointed out that the current time was only 2:15 PM and according to their sign, lunch hour seating was until 2:30 PM. Her response was that they stop seating at 2:15 PM. If they are going to stop seating for lunch at 2:15 PM, that information should be reflected on their window, this website, and anywhere else they advertise. Not to honor the hours your have posted is inappropriate business practice. While the food is excellent (4-5 starts), this failure to observe stated hours is poor (1 star). This experience means that we can no longer recommend this restaurant with confidence.
I LOVE Thai food, and I Love it spicy. So I was kinda' dissapointed when my dinner arrived White-Bread Bland after specifically requesting HOT. The restaurant was only medium busy that night and the wait-staff was not under any pressure, yet it took about 10 minutes for our waitress to acknowledge my signal AND call. When she finally reappeared at our table, I requested that my meal be prepared again, this time Spicy as originally requested. I also requested that it be remade, and not just slathered with hot sauce and returned to me. 3 minutes later, I had a plate of cold, hot-sauce covered slop (it was the SAME food that I had sent back... Now covered in Sriracha hot sauce) !!! The rest of my family's meals were OK and so they had been eating the whole time... I was able to attract our waitress after a few more minutes and point out that, not only was this the same plate of food I'd been served originally, it was now stone cold and would she please this-time, bring me a freshly made, properly prepared meal... I was still waiting for my dinner to arrive long after my family was done eating. I got to watch them eat... And then they got to watch me eat when my meal FINALLY arrived, the way it should have been prepared the first time!!! There was NEVER any apology from the waitress or the manager. All I received was the bill for all 4 dinners at full value. Upon arriving home that evening, I sent an email to Thai Orchid immediately. It took OVER a month and 3 more emails before Thai Orchid even responded. I am so Very unhappy with my dining experience and subsequent frustration with correspondence. The Thai Orchid in Vancouver should be avoided at all costs. When they get it wrong, they really Screw The Pooch !!!
We go to the Thai Orchid for consistently good Thai food that is moderately priced. The service is excellent also. Parking can sometimes be a problem, but that should be solved this Spring with their new location around the corner where they will have some off street parking. We have found this restaurant to be well worth the drive from Corbett, Oregon.
