The new Chef there is amazing! The home-made Cheescake was delightful and I am still thinking about it. The Veggie Burger was made fresh and I am now a fan. (Did I say that I hate veggies??? well no more) The staff was polite and friendly and the place was very clean. Ahh the view! I will be back, I just have to try the oysters, steaks and seafood!! Worth a visit!
Please see the letter below that I wrote to management. Says it all. Please don't go here--they don't deserve to be in business.
Attn: Best Western Lighthouse Suites Inn Management, Waves Restaurant & Bar Management, and
Mr. John Wheeldon, Executive Chef
I am writing to notify you of a very disappointing dining experience at the Waves Restaurant & Bar on Saturday, September 6th, 2008. We were at your restaurant from about 7:15-9:30 pm and during the evening, we encountered one unacceptable mistake after another characterized by slow, irresponsive service by your staff and their lack of concern for customers, as well as poor operations management.
While at first we were willing to forgive our waitress (Erin? Brown hair?) for the delays that were occurring, our patience disappeared quickly as she did not offer us bread at the table beforehand. It was only after looking around and observing that other patrons had bread baskets at their table when we realized what we were missing. We mentioned this to the waitress and eventually, a server brought it out, but it was to the table beside us. The same server also delivered our glass of wine and salads to the same, incorrect table. Needless to say, not only was there one unhappy table, but now there were two.
We had to wait at least 30 minutes for our meals to arrive—and we were most shocked to see that the same table next to us, who arrived and ordered well after us, received their meal (also steaks, same as what I had ordered) before we did. To fuel into the disappointment, my steak—which was ordered to be medium-well done--was of very poor quality meat, entirely overcooked, and inedible. In addition, the accompanying baked potato arrived plain without any embellishments. I had to request for butter and sour cream—but was given two of the latter! I was disappointed to learn that there were no bacon bits and had to make a request for chives—but they were thickly cut and unappealing.
The waitress never came by to check on us and hence, we could not give her any feedback. We left in frustration and of course as there was no waitress, our check was never brought to us. We walked up to the reception/arrival area and yet again, had to wait for someone to attend to our needs.
We should have taken a hint of things to come at the start of the evening when we first called to make reservations before our arrival—and was told that the restaurant was very busy and that the wait would be about 45 minutes. When we called back a second time, we were then told the wait would be 30 minutes, which was very inconsistent and puzzling. When we arrived, there was no one to welcome us at the reception/cashier area and had noticed that the restaurant was NOT busy.
We have never experienced such an upsetting, frustrating experience at a dining establishment. As the Waves Restaurant & Bar came highly rated and recommended in Ocean Shores, we had expected that professionalism and superior customer service in the hospitality and service industry would be a given. Unfortunately, in this industry where there is often no opportunity for second chances and knowing that the restaurant business thrives on repeat customers and word-of-mouth, you have definitely not only lost my confidence, but also any future recommendations to family, colleagues and friends. Instead, we will ensure that our honest reviews and negative experience are shared.

Waitstaff and Excutive Chef Unprofessional
our experince was not so pleasant we went for breakfast had a wonderful breakfast the day before but this time the chef sent the waitstaff back to tell me it would be 30 mintues for my crispy hash browns and the waitstaff was not so sweet the chef's return comment so i explained that we had no issue the day before with crispy hash browns it went on to be one issue after another. If i were a mystrey shopper this establishment failed and that chef would more then likely be replaced the wait staff never even asked if we would like something other then water to drink and when they were present at the table they would make comments about our
conversation which was not relevent to the hash brown issue so a word to the wise don't make a special request for crispy hash browns don't ask for the manager as there was no manager present don't ask for the managers card you will only get the card for the chef who told you it would be thirty minutes for the hash browns. Serivce on this day was so far from proffesional it made mars look close. I doubt i will ever eat at this restaurant again. our friends and family visit ocean shores often through out the year. what i and many other people want to convey is that it is service we want!!!
we all know if you cook hash browns for thirty mintues when they are already cooked they would be burnt!! Not crispy!!!!!
so after all this the hash browns come out crispy about thirty seconds after my meal arrived. I give the Waves Restaurant a thumbs down
